Ventolin and nasal congestion
Not sure that ventolin itself causes nasal congestion but nasal congestion can happen onlong side asthma. If you are having to use the ventolin daily you might need an asthma review with your GP or asthma nurse to check that it is being well controlled.
If you have rhinitis (runny nose) and nasal congestion then this can cause a post-nasal drip to go down to the back of your throat and aggravate your asthma. Nasal congestion can be caused by air bourne irritants, allergens and infection. If you are not sure of the cause then see your doctor. In the meantime you might find it helps to do a nasal wash twice a day.
A runny, stuffy nose is one of the side effects of ventolin.I used to experience it earlier too but in a much milder form.My nose stays clear until I use ventolin.Immediately after using ventolin, things worsen and
the congestion stays all night, making sleep impossible. Both nostrils get blocked completely.
My doctor has prescribed a nasal steroid but that can also be used only a few times.Beyond that, the nasal steroid can make the condition worse too.A preventer inhaler like Clenil has also created the same problem.
