Peak flow reducing on ICS

Hi, can anyone tell me why my son's peak flow is lower since using seretide?

His highest is 210 and he's just been gradually getting lower over about 4 months and had now been consistently around 150 about 2 months.

The only time that it has gone back up is when he has had ibuprofen.

What inhaler did he have before seretide? Some inhalers just don't work for some people as we're all different. And, some inhalers actually make things worse. Last year I had Fostair for six months and my peak flow deteriorated steadily through that time (to 120) until I was put on Pred. I now have Seretide (and Spiriva Respimat) which is better than Fostair for me. Best wishes to you and your son.

Thanks. He was want on any preventor inhaler prior to the seretide. He has tried beclomethasone, flixotide, but neither worked. He was on nothing, just lots of courses of pred

Make sure you give any ICS a full two weeks and don't miss any doses. If his allergies are seasonal that can be the culprit, not the medication. Try to find the triggers, since you say you already tried a few for long enough.

He's not actually having attacks though, he's well. But his peak flow is getting lower. So I don't think there are any triggers.

Although peak flow is only one factor to take into account when deciding treatment, 150 is perhaps too low. If your GP is not concerned, perhaps you should see either a consultant you've already seen, or a different one. They may be able to suggest lots of things from different medications to lifestyle choices. Your peace of mind about his treatment is just as important as his.

Thanks, he is under a consultant. We've just never had it explained as to why this is the case and so thought someone on here may have experienced the same thing
