Washing Pet Dander out of clothes?

Is there a product that can do this?

We had a rabbit and his dander was on our clothes and has spread to others. We’ve tried washing at high temperatures, multiple rinses, anti allergen product from Amazon, Eucalyptus Oil but the clothes still give me asthma!

Is there a magical product out there?

Thanks

Hi

If there’s still hairs/dander you can see in them (as they like to get everywhere and cling to fabric);

You could try tumble drying before you wash them (about a 10-minute no-heat cycle) to ‘loosen’ the hair but use a dryer sheet to reduce static and keep the hair off. When the cycles over give them a good shake (to get the rest off) then wash with a half-cup of white vinegar added to the machine’s rinse cycle (it’s ‘relaxes’ the fabric and looses more hair.

Remember to clean your washing machine by running a wash cycle without laundry afterwards, the when the cycle ends, wipe down the tub with a wet cloth and clean your TD or else the loose fluff will just go into the next load!

Alternatively/additionally try Lint catching wash balls in the WM!

Hope this helps and that your asthma calms down! If it doesn’t, go and see your GP for advice, it could be you need to up your asthma meds, until the clothes ‘clean’ themselves

Ps don’t forget if it’s on you’re clothes/PJs it may have transferred to your bedding!

You could try steaming; that should (note should, not definitely will) kill off any allergens, but you may have to just pick off the most obstinate hairs.

I believe there is a pet dander spray you can buy from the vets to use on your animal. This is supposed to stop or cut down animal dander in the air. x

My friend whose little boy has an allergy to animals swears by putting his clothes in the freezer for a few hours - worth a try!

Thanks for the tips. Whilst I am still allergic to our rabbit the current issue it turns out has come from LENOR SOFTENER! I think the Cationic Surfactants were the issue amongst the other chemicals in there and can also be to blame for eczema.

Ah! Well at least you’ve identified the cause! Hopefully now you can wash everything without the Lenor and start breathing properly again!
