I have a daughter with asthma and at the moment has been struggling with her asthma as has hayfever also so has been on steroids. We have been away to the lake district and has been fine but as soon as we are back she is wheezing. We are having a loft conversion so lots of building work. I was wondering if anyone has any advice or if it would be worth getting a humidifier for her whilst the building work carrys on also for her hayfever. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

The humidity is not low at the moment, so personally I would not buy a humidifier. I don't have an air purifier myself, but one of those might help. Best thing I ever got was a portable air conditioner to take the moisture out of the air when the humidity got above the high 50s. House dust mite breed more when the humidity is high as well.

Maybe though, look for a purifier. There are many posts on here about ones people have, Have a look. The Asthma nurses on here will be able to advise.

Dust, spores etc can be stirred up house renovations, and things like brick dust etc can irritate. Is there any way you can create some kind of ‘isolated’ zone in your house, where the door/s are always closed and such? When we had building works last year I was strongly advised to move out altogether, especially in the knocking down phase. I stayed away for that period, but managed the rest oK. I also struggle to tolerate oil based paints.

If your daughter can stay with a friend/relative for a while, that is your best bet. You can't eliminate the dust - I know it gets into every crevice - so no machine is going to help, I'm afraid.
