I have found the scarf trick really does work, even with twitchy lungs like mine which think almost everything is out to get them. The best ones I have are a long stretchy jersey scarf and a furry infinity scarf. I thought the pollution mask would work too, but I can't breathe properly in it.

Not sure I have any helpful tips for cold weather beyond the scarf and just avoiding it where possible. Not always practical I know with work, life etc. I advise checking weather forecasts to plan ahead at least. Because it's 'natural' unlike other triggers such as pollution, I think it is easy for everyone to minimise the effect it can have on asthma and say a bit of cold air isn't harmful, but I have found it just as bad as perfume and pollution at times.

I also advise trying to keep draughts out of the house where possible (again realise this can be hard and heating costs a lot of money). However, if I am too cold at night it does affect my sleep with asthma and it took me a while to realise this, so if you keep a cool house at night from habit/preference and you don't absolutely have to, that may be worth reconsidering if you have asthma affecting you at night.
