I have acute asthma and I have had constant chest infections since before Xmas I'm on my 5th bout of antibiotics and steroid. I have had a throat infection and now have a trachea infection on top of chest infection. I'm really struggling to cope and worried how much damage this is causing me. Some days I worry I'm not going to wake up and what will happen to my daughter. Does anyone know how much damage repeated chest infections cause?

Constant chest infections
I have acute asthma and I have had constant chest infections since before Xmas I'm on my 5th bout of antibiotics and steroid. I have had a throat infection and now have a trachea infection on top of chest infection. I'm really struggling to cope and worried how much damage this is causing me. Where in the world you live can make a difference to your medical condition. Chest infections are not necessarily caused or related to asthma. A trachea infection is also likely to be unconnected to asthma. Your trachea may have narrowed and be causing a restriction. Deep breathing can help to expand your trachea and I use the habit every day in order to awake the next day.
Repeat chest infections can be a bit complicated. However, I do know that they can lead to fluid on the lungs and cardiovascular problems such as high blood pressure
I think you need your GP to refer you for an x-ray.
Repeated chest infections dont always cause damage (so far i didnt get any damage since about september ) but still couldnt get rid of it but what i m trying is by huffing each day to clear my chest so breathing is a bit easier
Hi
I was in a similar position to you last year, viral infection, asthma exacerbation then chest infection. In the end I was referred to a chest consultant who has really stepped up asthma treatment with good results. What also happened was that my immunity was checked and my sputum cultured, this has helped work out which bacteria was causing the infections and which antibiotics to use.
Made a big difference.
