Does this sound like asthma?

My 4 yeah old son has had a cough for a few weeks now, its not a chesty cough, more like a 'frog in his throat' like he's trying to clear his throat, but it's continuous. We try to get him to do a big cough but this won't clear it. I know when my asthma is playing up I get this, like the mucous is clogging up my throat.

In addition to this my 6 year old daughter complains of her 'heart hurting' when she's been outside when its cold, especially if she's been running/skipping on the way to school. She shows me where it hurts, and actually its actually her chest. Again she's had a cough that never cleared up after a cold about 6 weeks ago.

I was diagnosed with asthma in 2010 and their Dad had it as a child. I know these symptoms are vague, but do they sound like asthma? I'm reluctant to go to the GP as I always seem to be there at the moment and don't want to come across as a hypochondriac! At the same time, I don't want to risk their health. I have a PF meter, are they too young to use it properly? If not, I guess I could monitor their PF to watch for diurnal variation/drop when weather is cold etc.

the only thing i could say about the PF meter is that there is a different one for children so getting them to use your one probably wouldn't be that useful

Their symptoms do sound like asthma to me (but i'm NOT a medical person and we're not allowed to give medical advice / diagnoses on here) i can understand your reluctance to go back & forth to the GP, maybe you just need to see how they go and if they get worse / no better you should just go
