Just found out my son has asthma

Hi All,

Just found out today that my little boy probably has asthma (he is 3). We have been given inhalers and steroids for him and have to go back to the dr next week. We only found out about this as he has a viral infection and I just wanted some advice about we can expect to happen next i.e will they do tests etc?

My son has just turned four and he was struggling with a really bad cough at night and persistent infections for a while when he turned two. We saw the asthma nurse who prescribed Clenil Modulite through a spacer and almost overnight his symptoms disappeared. He has a completely normal life now. I am sure that when the docs identify the triggers and find the right combination of treatment the same thing will happen for your son. Good luck !

The Drs may not do any tests as your little one is quite young and the tests tend to be blowing into things in a certain way which can be hard for young children.

My son (he's 5) has viral asthma which means it only rears its head whrn hes got coughs and colds.

You will probably see the asthma nurse who.will give you more guidance and I will say the asthma uk nurses on the freephone number are amazing to talk to, full of knowledge and really friendly so might be worth calling them.

My daughter is 2 and 1/2 she had quite a rocky bump and was very ill at 10 months old,previse to that she was already on asthma meds before her bad epsiode, since then she has remaind on medication, but never had any other tests. (which i am going to ask about at her nxt app).

If the mediction starts to control it they may not do any tests.
