3rd chest infection in 2 months!

Hi all

Does anyone else get chest infections this frequently? If so what has your doctor/nurse/specialist said to you? If anyone has any hints or tips it would be much appreciated.

hi Rach 87,

ive had a few chest infections one after another and no time to get back to normal

before the next ones.

you will settle down intime ,but as asthma and chest infections realy make your

lungs grumpy it takes a long time set settled again,

your doctor will sort it and make sure you use your meds and action plan if you

have one.good luck ,glynis xxx

Thanks very much. I am going to see my doctor on Thursday xx

I've had several chest infections over the last year which turned into pneumonia. So I can understand how frustrating it is. I am on the mend now having had two courses of very strong antibiotics from the consultant back in April. Interesting effect on the stomach (for which I took lots of probiotics which are apparently good for immune system too) but they have worked. The previous courses I had had from the doctor just weren't strong enough.

Hope that helps and I hope you get better.

i know EXACTLY how you feel, even though that's what everyone says, i actually do. i once had a whole year, which i got atleast 12 chest infections in, but really bad ones which went on for couple of weeks each, they should keep you on anti-biotics until you feel better, or steriods, i'm currently suffering from a chest infection, i get them soo often the first i got was when i was 5 months on christmas day! and i've got them every 4 months or more since, i've ALWAYS had a weak chest i never get a cold, always skip them and go straight to chest infections, if you have an asthma nurse or someone who is an asthma specialist then speak to them, and if you get good advice, post it on here so i can see it please. also, if you have preventors then make sure you're using them, good luck at the docs, hope all goes well x

I am going to my GP tomorrow Meg, I will let you know how I get on xx

that's good, hope all goes well with it all :) x

Hi, i seem to have had a chest infection each month since January of this year and always seem to be really struggling with the mucus that comes along with it. Try not to visit the doc too much so by time get to see her, it takes at least couple of dozes of anti biotics to clear up. I get tired of going to see her and sure that she must be sick of seeing me.

Also having quite a lot of pain in ribs lately.

Thanks

Jools

I tend to get chest infections all through winter with no break and sometimes in the summer. Saw a specialist for my asthma and he says there doesnt appear to be any damage to the lungs so as long as antibiotics and steroids work think they are happy for me just to muck through it. But I may be prone to infections due to my vitamin deficiencies which have just come to light, maybe you should try to get your vitamin levels checked, especially vitamin D

Quite a coincidence, i just said today that i feel like i may be coming down with a chest infection and then i come online and see this thread!

Joules - maybe you could ask your gp if you could keep a microbiology form and a course of broad-spec antibiotics in reserve, then as soon as you get the first sign of a chest bug you can get a sample of mucus to your local hospital lab, and start taking the antibiotics. Then your surgery can phone you as soon as they have the result, to tell you which bug has been cultured & confirm whether or not you're on the right antibiotics for it

This is what I do and it means I squash bugs straightaway and find out whether my lungs are harbouring anything out of the ordinary which might need different treatment

Hi guys

Just to let you all know, I went to my GP today and they have put me back on Singulair, they took me off at first when my Husband and I started trying for a baby but they have put me back on and said it will be safer than getting loads of chest infections and being pumped full of antibiotics, let's hope this does the trick :-) xx

that's good. I hope it works :) x
