Hi everyone!! I'm new to this site. I'm 37 yeas and just been diagnosed last week with moderate COPD. Can I claim DLA. Thanks
Hi Olivia and welcome
For DLA general information try:
BLF Helpline 03000 030 555 (Mon to Fri 10 am to 6 pm)
wordsofdistinction.co.uk/wp...
gov.uk/dla-disability-livin...
or your local Citizens Advice Bureau
Hi Olivia 12,I was in the same situation a couple of months ago, and what I was lead to beleive that you had to be diagnosed for at least three months and must have the illness for a further 6 months to qualify. Im sure other users will know and advice you.Matt
Thanks matt
Hi Olivia I believe DLA qualification is not based on illness or severity , the helpline will clear that up and welcome to the group.
Thanks srobbitty
Hi Olivia12
Welcome to the forum.
DLA is in the process of being changed to a new benefit called Personal Independence Payment (PIP) If you live in certain test areas (such as parts of the North West) you would need to apply for PIP.
DLA and PIP are both based on how the condition affects your day to day abilities such as washing, dressing and walking.
It can be easier to discuss this over the phone, if you can give us a call on 03000 030 555 Mon - Fri 10am -6pm we will be more than happy to help you with this.
Cheers
Jo
Thanks jo
