Everyone needs friends once in a while a beautiful thought KOTC
We have three grand-children, one 7 years, one 4 fours and one 2 years of age.
We were very worried when he had to start using the wheelchair, stairlift and oxygen as he didn't want to frighten them and didn't know how they would take it.
When they came to see us shortly after we got all the equipment (they were much younger then) we told them what everything was for and, let them play on the stairlift (supervised of course), they rode around in the wheelchair and altered the walking stick to their height the oxygen never bothered them they just asked what it was and we told them it was to help granddad breathe more easily and after that they never bothered. The only problem we had was we did not have enough walking sticks as they wanted one each. Children are very resilient and a big comfort as they understand things without it getting complicated, our 7 years old granddaughter loves to push her granddad round in the wheelchair on the flat when we go out for a meal with them at birthdays etc.
When they come to see us now, they go and give their granddad a big hug, it is as if they know he is very poorly.
It would be great if they lived with us as the difference in my husbands demeanor is amazing, he does not get nasty, bossy or domineering, he puts on a different face and no-one believes how awkward he is normally. I have told them but they think I'm blowing things up out of proportion. In fact my son told my husband that I am lucky he is still alive, he does not believe what I have to do as my husband tells him I am lying.
that is lovely, for the little boy to go round to the gentilman if as he told he mother he helped the man cry, very sweet thankyou for sharing it with us.
