There are people on here, I'm afraid, who will try to tell you different, but it IS true, they can improve. Not smoking, eating healthily, the correct weight and aerobic exercise WILL help. Those who decline, don't do these things, I'm afraid.

I admit that if you're already severe at diagnosis, these things might be out of your reach, but like me, you are moderate and can improve things.

It is surprising how many people with diagnosed COPD still smoke.

I don't mean this to be a contentious comment, but we all need to elp ourselves as much as we can.

yes lynne your right and honest i have try to pack up smoking over ten years giving up for a month or 2 then chest feeling better so start again till wheezing starts again then pack up again for a few days or a month

i think if i had known about copd i know i would have packed up but then i did know about lung cancer and other thinks smoking can do to you so i wonder

buy yes i cant believe how people are still smoking has i just stopped when i was told because it just scared me, but i know it is so hard

hope you have a good day music x

Mine changes often - I get one reading from the surgery and a different one from the hospital. Usually the hospital, with the big fancy machine, is lower. At the surgery it's the pharmacist who does the spirometry and she has a little gadget the size of a CD walkman. All modern and technical no doubt, but always a higher reading.

Then again, to look at the reasons why you can get ups and downs, it depends on your health at the time, if you've recently taken medication, if the medication you've been having has changed, stopping smoking, having a cig - many factors.

In Lynne's case it may even be just dropping her aitches :D

Hi, I have advanced copd, and was delighted that I went up a couple notches, after being on onbrez for 10 months.Specialist said he will be interested at the 12 month mark,as to what it is, as it often needs that time to truly show results.I also take spiriva, symbicort.xx
