time to be put on oxygen or not
hi everyone can anyone tell me when m... - Lung Conditions C...
hi everyone can anyone tell me when my respiratory nurse comes to see me she puts the oxygen test on my finger and it was 95 is this a right
95 is good, have they mentioned giving you an oxygen assessment.
Kim
95 is fine. Mine is normally between 96 and 98.
Someone with more knowledge will advise, but I think most people on oxygen are below 90.
Lynne xx
Hi
88/92 is a acceptable level at rest.
For excercise they like 91/92.
My level fell to 85 walking.
Maintained 91/92 on six minute walk test. On 2 lpm oxygen
This was this morning at my oxygen assessment
Normal at rest is 93/94 present reading 95.
95 sounds good to me as well.
As already mention 95 is a good reading. However if you are still smoking its impossible to get an accurate reading on the oximeter but if you stop smoking now you may not ever need oxygen!
95 is pretty good - my husband has severe Copd and his resting sats are 93.
The magic number is 88 below that level can affect your organs. My husband has been given oxygen for exercise on the pulmonary rehab course as his sats were dipping to 84 when walking and his recovery was slower thAn expected.
You may never need oxygen! Lots of love TAD x x
hi minkeymoo looks like yer old lungs are not too bad this is velly good. Are you still puffing? if so why dont you join us on here im doing it you can too it is hard but there is so much support here visit everyday im always around some where and many others ,you might just surprise yourself.Go on go on go on.takecare now your lungs are screaming at you for help! haha i just thought your gonna say you dont smoke any more. Well in that case get down that gym and work out haha!Janexx
I am usually about 92/93 so I suppose that's ok
Oxygen therapy is not a magic cure all, for all. It is only given if your oxygen level is very low for most of the time. I would be more than happy with your readings. Oxygen is very restrictive and one therapy that I would not like to have. Good luck.
hi brian your right oxygen is some thing l wouldn't want but with c.o.p.d it will come to us all at some point so l don't think that going around with a lung condition is going to escape the oxygen cos it wont so lm keeping an open mind on that one
i think some where along the line, someone may have given you the wrong info. COPD is term used for a whole load of lung conditions, some very common , some very rare. Not everyone with COPD will end up on oxygen. It can only be used to support folk on very low sats....no one else. My friend past away with COPD given as the cause of death and he only ever had oxygen in his last 5 days when he was in hospital. He had been bed bound for almost 7 years and although he fought for his breath, his oxygen levels were well within the limits. The reason he became frail and weak was due to obvious lack of movement due to being in bed, his very low calorie intake and not taking enough liquids. If I have to go onto oxygen, I hope it won't be until I am already house bound because the idea of carrying a bottle around to go to the pub or on a run out on my mobility scooter, doesn't appeal to me.
l have emphysema my doctor told me it was severe as my blow test is only 32 at the best of times if l have a chest infection it has only ever been 27 0r 28
Did you know, that you should not do any lung testing whilst you have an infection and for 8 weeks afterwards. It can lead to serious damage. My next step on this COPD ladder will be the wooden overcoat. I have less that 25% lung capacity and a lung age of 95 but nowhere near needing oxygen yet. If I test myself in the morning and my sats are low, I just sit back, relax and do some breathing control exercises for 10 minutes. After that my pulse is down to normal and my sats are reasonable unless i have an infection. I fairly certain that I will escape the oxygen therapy because next Wednesday, I start my cancer treatment...so who knows.
god l thought l was bad having five things wrong with me but you are worse off than me because of the cancer l think you got enough going on without the c.o.p.d well you will just have to let that wooden over coat wait a lot longer ok so buck up and give us a big smile and remember there full upstairs theres no room for you or me take care xx
I am fine. i never have any need to buck up as I am always bucked all the way up. I might have bad days, who doesn't , but then without bad days you wouldn't appreciate the good days. with regard the cancer treatment, I have two things in my favour. 1. I have 100% confidence in the team that will be looking after me and 2. Only the good die young, so I'll be around for a while yet.
true saying,bernice
O2 sat levels can fluctuate, up and down. if you have COPD, you should get a finger pulse oximeter and test/monitor yourself at rest, during household and yard work, and exercise. After you do it enough, you will be able to estimate it. Keep in mind that cooler temp's can give you an inaccurate/lower reading. Don't freak out.
morn Hitchcock, nice to see you,oxy still good 98,99.bernice
Bernice--damn good! Outstanding! Rich
thanks partener,hang in with me,bernicex
