Organ donation

If anyone is watching This Morning on ITV you might have seen my friends speaking about the death of their young daughter last summer and her desire to have her organs donated. Organ donation is, I imagine, a subject close to our hearts (or lungs!!) If you've never signed up think about visiting organdonation.nhs.uk today :)

Hi, am already an organ donor but just deciding whether to leave my whole body to medical science instead as I don't imagine my organs would be good enough for transplant, Libby

Unfortunately I am unable to sign up but the rest of my family all have including my grandson who is only 11 (well he can't actually at the moment but he talked about it to us all). I believe you should have to opt out not opt in, it wouldn't take much to change the law but our politicians never do what is sensible.

Mum is not the same as daughter and I know the feelings are so very different in that one does expect to lose a parent but never a child and not comparing them at all.

Liver, both kidneys and her heart all transplanted and it does help and is a positive out of something that is so sad, 4 people got new lives thanks to her, I still think about that and it is 11 years on

I know my friend found it very comforting that 3 people were able to continue living thanks to Leah (both kidneys and liver)

It does, nothing stops the pain or how much you miss them, it is difficult to explain how it helps but your friend is right, it just does

As I have had cancer (twice), last one 15 years ago, they will not take my blood now but signed up for organ donation anyway because I don't know if it makes any difference to that!
