If you are thinking of taking out an Income Protection plan baxter, the best thing you can do is speak to an independant financial adviser.

Choose carefully as some of the plans are not what the seem ........

:)

Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole!

I would always look with serious caution and do a google search for reviews on that company. As with any insurance, there are good and bad out there but with health cover insurances. Caution would be the word to use. I don't know if Which have any info on it but they are a trusted independent company to check

Talk to your employer, don't go direct to an insurance company, you'll probably find that it works out cheaper, or that they already have some cover in place.

There's also the point that if you do lose your job, having a policy of this sort may impact upon your entitlement to benefits and services.

There's also the issue of if you stop paying into the scheme, you can end up with nothing at all. Some schemes have you pay in a set amount every month, this has to remain active or you'll not be able to get any payment under the plan. If you stop paying for any reason then you don't get a penny back of what you've paid in, and you've no cover either.

Funny how this has come up, my wife was looking at an over-50's policy earlier, which had very similar conditions. We've decided it's not worth it as there could be any number of reasons why she would stop paying into it once she retires, yet she has to keep the payments up or it gets cancelled, unless she is over age 81 as her payments would stop then.

The illustration also shows that the amount she would pay in over the years would be more than what they would pay out. She would be better off putting it into a savings account. The only benefit is that they'd pay out the set amount if she dies any time after the first year of paying in.
