Hypertonic saline is a more concentrated saline than normal saline. Normal saline is usually 0.9% and hypertonic is usually 3%, 6% or 7%. They would not give it to you to make you feel worse, on the contrary it's purpose is to draw water into your lungs and make the gunk easier to dislodge and get up. They should give you a test run first at the hospital, where you will be asked to nebulise a bronchodilator followed by hypertonic saline.
Personally I use either 0.9% or 7% depending how my bronch is.
Hope you find it helpful.

Hi yes is helpfull .... Seen few horror stores on internet even tho i have faith in my specilist dont like hospitals and thought of aving nasty turn fills me with horror and dred
Hi
Horror stories are why it's better to keep to reputable sites. Nobody likes hospitals sweet - I spent huge amounts of time in them as a child and not for such long periods as an adult and you never get used to them or like them.
You are right to have faith in your consultant - he is obviously trying to do his best to help you. Your trial will only last about an hour nebbing bronchdilator as I said followed by the saline. You will not have a 'turn.' The reason they do it in hospital initially is to check out you don't get very wheezy after, and if you do they will sort it easily. If it suits you, then thereafter you can nebulise at home - no probs.

Your welcome. Try stay positive. Hope it helps you. I need to drink lots of water when nebbing hypertonic - good to drink lots anyway (water that is).
