If you post a youtube link into a post then the video will magically appear in your post!

You can change your avatar by clicking on the arrow next to your username in the top right corner of the screen and selecting profile. There you will see where to change it to any picture you like.

Being thick "into a post" where do I see that - do I type the forum address (BLF whatever)

Annie, this is something Ilearned very recently. When you are reading something on your computer the "address" for that page is in the bar right at the top of your screen. If you right click the bar you can "copy" it then "paste" it into your post on here to direct people back to what you were reading. Does this help?

A lot of things are controlled in your own Profile page - go to the top right of any page here and click on your own name. On the left there will be 3 yellow buttons, the bottom one is Edit "About Me" - the page this brings up allows you to edit your biography, edit your personal details and also change your picture (avatar).

The picture needs to be on your computer, when you click 'Choose File' the box allows you to select things form your hard drive.

If you see a picture on the Internet that you like you can usually move the mouse pointer over it then click the right-hand mouse button and 'Save Image As...' or whatever it says in your browser when you click. Some sites are protected and you cannot do it that easily. Remember where you have saved it so you can find it to upload.

As auntymary has pointed out, copying useful links is quite easy, you need to put your mouse over the web page 'address' (the uniform resource locator, often termed the URL) and right click to see a menu that includes 'copy' - then go to your message and put the cursor where you want to add the info then right click again and this time choose 'paste'. Some do not work as they should though, probably not your fault if they have things like %20 when you paste it.

We could do with a proper 'how to do' section on this site...

Agreed. And often the advice on "how to" is so far above my head it does not help. Athar said "If you post a youtube link into a post then the video will magically appear in your post!" Well so it may. But if you don't know what a link is or how to post it the advice is useless! So please remember that most of us on here are NOT of the IT generation and I for one need a comprehensive (real) idiot's guide.

Even I'm still learning, I didn't realise that holding down the ALT key and the CTRL key, then F16 and ESC as well, and trying to type this reply was going to be so difficult...
