I agree with this totally but try and tell people suffering from depression. They need help especially with the depressing weather in the UK at the moment.

Well Annie, plenty of sunshine here,to much at the moment!! But there are still a lot of depressed people!! Although I agree, bad weather can be very depressing,

I agree that people can do more to help themselves quite often. I also think people with depression need some help to start with.

Are those awful fires anywhere near you Wendells?

Lynne xx

Thanks Lnne, quite agree with you. These awful fires seem to be spreading state to state, the weather is so hot and dry. I am in Queensland, and so far not to drastic, but wont speak to soon.Funny to think it was only about a year ago, there were the horrific floods here. But this is Australia!!

My nephew and his family are in Wakerley. They were lucky in the floods as their house is on a bit of a hill.

Glad you are not in the zone, I hope it stays that way.

I wonder if you have suffered from proper depression? if so I could do with some advice on how to cope with it. I have been on anti depressants for years as the talking therapy didn't help. Its not just a low mood it's a chemical imbalance in the brain and very debilitating.

Oh Gilly,I do hope no one thought I was having a go at depression, far from it,they have all my sympathy.

I have suffered from it,and still do a tad, now and then.

I would not offer advice on it,as obivously what works for one does not for another, but dont stop trying to find whats right for you.

I can only speak for myself, when down, I watch a funny dvd,and keep right away from the depressing stories on curent affair programmes etc.I try to treat myself with something, and talk to people whom are very positive in there outlook, and that rubs off at times!!

The other thing I do is cook,as I love it,and find it very relaxing. There is only the 2 of us at home now,but I put it in take away boxes, and pass them on to people that may need it, at the time,or family if they are very busy!

You say its a chemical inbalance, so I take it that you have tried different meds? What about changing Doctors?

I realy dont know what the answer is, but I do feel for you,

Big hugs Wendells xxx

Thanks Wendells, I didn't think you were having a go at all, I just wanted to hear what other people do and how they cope. I'll not change Dr's though as she is very good with me. I also watch funny dvd's but when I'm down I have no concentration to do anything. Might try the cooking thing but I'm not to good at that, it's a good job I live alone. :)

Hi Gilly I have been in hospital with depression to say people were amazed would be an understatement. When people were told the remarks were " But she is not the sort of person to be depressed "

"She is aways the life and soul of the party"

I became such a good actor I could have awarded myself an Oscar.

I have never felt like harming myself as I would hate to leave my family with the thought I had chose to leave them but some days it was a disappointment to wake up.

I know not from where the depression comes from or when it will call or why. It passes and I do remind myself of that as it is more debilitating for me than C.O.P.D.

I try to be as honest about this illness as it is difficult for others to understand. We decided to go 'public' with it when I came home after a couple of weeks in the hospital. I can't tell you how odd people were even to the point of asking my husband how I was when I was stood next to him!

I call it my black curtain so that no one can tell me to pull myself together.

I do feel for you Gilly please contact your doc or helplines there is a lot of help out there. You can also chat with me at any time if you would like. Please remember" It does pass " I promise you.

Big hugs Gina xxxxx

You cannot 'pull yourself together' if you have severe depression, it is an illness, a big black cloud all around you which nothing will move. I'm on ADs, they do help. Spring sometimes eases it, and that isn't far away Gilly.

I call mine"going into the black hole" I cope with it most of the time and the meds help it's just sometimes it gets a bit much. Thanks for the kind words and thoughts. xxx

I haven't been on this site for quite a while (a year to two I think) - I just keep taking the tablets, however it might be helpful to some of you.

I have a remote Wendells, she is sat beside me.

Hi Gilly I suffer with depression and am on ad's like you. Its true that it does usually ease up after a while. I just try to carry on as normal and If I can't I limit it to what I can do. Not easy if you are working though! I live alone as well.

I find giving myself committments helps ie walking my sisters dog, visiting my mum in her home and playing darts for a team. Try and focus on things you enjoy doing when you are not so depressed and carry on doing those as much as possible.

Also there is a site here for depression. Go into my communities at the top. I have joined it and am finding it good. There isn't as much action there but its still worthwhile.

Hope this helps
