I know it is very cold but I am going anyway, I will wrap up well and put the heater on in the car and take my oxygen. Mum is 92 and lives in a lovely residential home with 10 other ladies about 20 miles away in the shadow of Berkerley Castle (look it up) She says she lives the life of Riley, warm, fed well and all she could wish for, she is in good health apart from wobbly legs! Dad was there too until he died 2 years ago, and please don't think we put them there, it was their own decision and one they made when they first retired. I have jokingly booked my place. I take my rollator, put my oxygen tank in the bag, scarf over my mouth and trundle from the disabled parking up to the old farmhouse, funny how farmhouses were in the middle of country towns, I arrive just in time for coffee and we sit in her room and have a natter, she catches up on what the grandchildren are doing, and the great grandchildren (no great great grandchildren yet even though the eldest is 26) I will take her present (a bowl of hyacinths) and card as that is the last time I will go until after Christmas. I am the eldest so I let the youngster do the running around in the busy period.
I know this is a long post that doesn't really have anything to do with lungs but I thought it just showed that even with severe COPD and on oxygen you don't have to miss out on visiting family or other things, and atleast I know there they have all had their flu jabs!
Have a warm and fulfilling day.

Carole, thank you for such a lovely cheerful post. Sounds like a really nice day. My Mum would be 91 if she was still here, how I wish I could wrap up and visit her! You sound a bit like me with your rollator and your oxygen in the bag! Isn't it wonderful that it gives us the opportunity to stay active. I remember my poor grandfather, who left his health in the Polish salt mines during world war 1, being confined to bed with the large oxygen cylinders that where the norm when I was a child! Hope you have a lovey visit! Maureen xx
Isn't it amazing that your grandfather was affected by working in the salt mines and now salt pipes are used for breathing obviously you can overdose on everything!!
Thanks Carole - very uplifting post. Great spirit you have not allowing this stuff to stop you. After all you hear about elderly care and care homes it is so nice to hear you Mum is so very happy and contented. That must be a great comfort to you. Please get me an application form and I will join you - not just yet of course!
Hope you have a wonderful time with your lovely mum. It does sound as if she is doing very well in her care home which is great. Have a great Christmas Carole, that is my name too.
