I have red crosses where our pictures should be, anyone know why.

The system cannot find the image within a certain amount of time. It's either missing or, most likely here, times out.
Sometimes a reload will display them.
Next time I have a computer problem Gordon, I am definately messaging you lol. I am genuinely impressed with you knowledge from other posts I have seen.

It's more to do with how the site is hosted than the Internet itself getting slower
