As some of you know we moved in to our smaller house in June this year. Had a great deal of help from friends and family to get it how we wanted it. The previous people liked vibrant colours but they were a tad to vibrant for our eyes. so we mellowed it all down throughout.
Only a few things left on the list one of which was replace the bath panel that was looking very tired. so found one that we both liked not over stated and after all was only hiding the pipes and legs. The old one was lipped under the bath and had 2 screws with a large silver washer on each securing the bottom and looked very crude.
Wife goes off to work and I muster my self to get the job done. Cushions laid on the floor so I do not cripple my knees and remove the ugly screws. pick out the sealant and wrench the thing out. Quick look and realise I need my chisels to make the panel look better behind the skirting board and a some paint for the wall as the new panel is a slightly flatter. So with the finesse of a walrus on the beach I get off the floor go downstairs go to the shed get my chisels and the paint. Back up the wooden hill get my breathing in order and assume the walrus position mark out the skirting thinking how much better it will look fitted this way. Now all I need is my Hammer? My hammer in the shed still! I am perfecting the getting upright by a smidge! In the Shed hammer in hand logic part of brain kicks in "anything else" So I am talking to my shelf in the shed the list of things I have and what I need to complete this task "No" good to go close the shed door "Paint Roller" Hammer and Roller in hand back up the higher wooden hill. Sat on my chair to get the breath back again. Determined to finish this off I am sitting on the bathroom floor shaping the end of the skirting to fit flush with the panel. all done bar the puffing and panting so reposition the bottom wooden brace realise that my cunning plan has made more work! The wooden bath supporting blocks need to be reduced so I can make the panel flush! with a very numb bum by this time I am banging away some more wood and support ready to be fixed. I deserve a coffee now so I have now become a beached whale trying to stand but the draw of a hot drink wins the day.
End stage? Fit the panel? Put the top in the upper lip under the bath and slide in position fits at that end exactly as I wanted! So as I move along to the other end realise it is not going to play fair. It is 9mm to long for my bath and 8mm to high reducing to nothing half way. Out comes my strong Stanley knife ( other knives are available) and score my way though and snap it off a little grunt and groan and it is fitted. Well almost I am not going to use the screw and ugly washer to fix the base but need some mirror screws to finish it off (next job) I crawled into the bedroom /computer room and slumped in my chair. I popped my oxymeter on and I was 124 HR 81% O2 thinking not another one of these EVER! This morning I have awoken with pains in muscles I did not know I had!

That was one heck of a task...phew. could just imagine the frustration of realising your need of extra tools and the effort of having to get up off the floor...tut! Well done for completing the job.
My little DIY attempt will come later. Bought a folding walking stick - adjustable, only to find it's shortest length is still to long for my 5' 2" stature. I have a hacksaw in my toolbox so will have a go at sawing some off
That,s what I meant, you,d have to cut that one off so would need a new one ,you can buy the.Internet mantra Google them lol.I,m only 5'7 so I,m on the shortest on my stick, there must be shorter ones though.Good. Luck.D.
Well done Sir. Job #1025! That really is one over the K. I hope the finished job proves satisfying and that you will have no occasion to need to repeat this task.
I'd take my hat off to you Offcut If I was wearing one! Well done to you. Not surprised you are feeling rough. I got tired just from reading your post! Waiting for the aches and pains now!
Great work OC, You described your day so well I felt as though I had done that bath panel myself, all that bending and up and down stairs would have done me both physically and mentally. Keep ticking that list until its all finished by which time you should be as fit as a butchers dog yourself.
Next job offcut you can do my roof as need repointing on the rig as my disable son pointed out and a couple of slates put back after plumer put boiler in can't call him back as doing a holiday in prison for robbery lucky my son went from room to room with him as he did not trust him so next job a big one offcut
Well a plumber doing robbery when they charge enough for it to be legal robbery? Only problem I have is I do not have a ladder and I do not like heights. Not a good idea with the chance of frost messes up the mortar. spring autumn good time as more stable temperatures. I have looked though my diary and it seems I am busy on all of them until 2055 maybe you can wait until then?
No problem I can wait around plumbers called one in this week to service the boiler which is a year old 50.00 he said now it looks like 100.00 as the one who put it in made a right mess for one connector for the waist water 14.00 in diy shop how thinks have shot up in price and that is only a small thing made off plastic about one ins in length never mind got to be done or he may condem the boiler so I think his labour on top of parts will be about a nother 50.00
That was some DIY - brilliant for doing it but you do need to take care xxxx
Sorry Offcut but I couldnt help but smile. The job lists are never ending unfortunately hopefully you've broken the back of them though.Blessings breathe easy Janexx

I like the thinking the best at the moment. I am still feeling wiped out
I know how you feel I only went to two pluming venters yesterday as all I was looking for was a connector for the boiler as one was not put on when it was put in or I did find it but it was23.50 so I rang my son and told him to go to the one by him and he had it for 12.49 what a difference in price so the plumer came last night and done it now he told me that the idiot who put the boiler in did not seal around the flu and water was runing down on to the boiler so now I got to get something to seal the roof around the pipe and fill in the hole so I told him I will get fire prof form as it was cold last night but the best part was I asked him how much I owd him and he said I nomaly charge 100.00 so give me 70.00
