I managed to get to the leisure centre today and "Yes" they do have a scheme between the local council and the NHS. All you need is proof of a benefit or a doctor's letter and ten pounds for the year. I paid over four hundred pounds last year for the same- what a result!!

I 've no idea. It might be worth 'popping' (assuming you can still 'pop' : -) I can't pop that's why it's taken me over a week to get there - and it's in walking distance!!!) into your local leisure to ask - that's all I did because the doctors didn't know what I was talking about!! It's worth a try especially as the savings are so great. Good luck with that. Let us know how you get on. Terri - Rose 1958
The four minute journey took me a long time!! hee hee
Hi how are you today You are lucky yours is in walking distance I live between 2 leisure centres both are a car journy away. I do go when I am able so it is good to know you can get it for a tenner. keep fit luv kate
HI Katie. I am luck y, It's a council leisure centre but it's excellent. The posh and expensive private leisure centre left with the ex husband. I never really fitted in- my lycra stretched too too too ... much!! In the council run centre no one seems to mind that I have many, many bits that jiggle about! Not once have I had to confront the ironing - board set ( ie faces stretched like ironing board covers with bodies straight up and down, no curves - figureless) to ask what they 're laughing at!! I am so tired recently, I know that swimming or the gym will sort it out but I am too tired to get there. In a previous post today I mentioned that I wanted to buy some bacon. I fancy a sandwich. I think the logical thing to do would be to go to the gym and nip into ASDA on the way back for the bacon - lateral thinking!! Sorted!! x
It's great to see you encouraging and informing each other of ways to keep fit in your local
area.
It's also good to have motivations to get to the gym (e.g. buying the bacon for the sandwich you fancy!).
You should ask your instructor to talk to you about goal setting - that way each bit of exercise you do feels managable and worth trying, rather than having a general aim of 'keeping fit' which can seem daunting or untangible.

Great work everyone!
Ha ha. I am never going to live that bacon sandwich down am I !!I didn't even like it!! . Thanks for the advice. I will look later. I actually went for my first swim this morning - in a year. managed 20 minutes. I don't understand why I was breathless walking from the car park up the ramp and into the pool - and then managed a nice leisurely swim with no problems. now, sitting here I can feel the restriction and slight pain in my back again when I breath in and out. I m so confused by all this.
