DNR notices & living wills

Following tinies' blog about DNR notices, thought I'd mention that I've made a Living Will. You can give a copy to your relatives, gp, and the hospital and it enables you to appoint a proxy to make decisions on your behalf when you are no longer able.

Age UK has a very useful factsheet on the subject ageuk.org.uk/money-matters/...

It is best to get proper legal advice but if you don't wish to use a solicitor you can download a template from some websites eg compactlaw.co.uk/free-legal...

Two important points: (a) You and your proxy must sign the will in the presence of two witnesses, who must both then sign it and print their name, address and occupation. The date of signing must be inserted at the top of the first page. (b) the person you appoint as proxy must not be a beneficiary under your main will, ie not anyone you are leaving your money or possessions to
