Hi Madmarc - I'm new to the site,( I'm my husband's carer, he has fibrosis. ). Please don't give in - phone the BLF Helpline in the morning, see if they can help - we were getting no support until I spoke to them and they suggested we should ask for Pulmonary Rehab.I found a number for Pulm. Rehab locally on the internet and phoned to talk to them. They sent a Respiratory Nurse to see us, no miracle cures but practical advice, like washing your mouth our after using inhalers etc. to avoid mouth ulcers/thrush etc. and my OH is having assessment for oxygen next week as a result of the nurse's visit.I do feel for you - and no, I don't suppose I can really imagine what it is like for you. Just hang in there, I'm sure others will be adding their comments & support soon, and be much more help to you. I'm just going to bed and saw your post, and felt I had to get in touch in case you are still online..

So sorry madmarc. Don't do anything daft though I do understand how you feel. Been there got the t-shirt etc. I'm on anti-depressants too and I gave in to temptation a few years ago. The result? I slept for 2 days and woke up. OMG!

Everyone is here for you love - promise you will come in whenever you need to - you will always get support and care here. Bev xx

I had to wait a year before I finally managed to get a proper lung function test. In the end I changed my doctor and he got things moving. Before that there were some days i was gasping for breath ever few minutes. I did get a bit miserable to begin with then got annoyed and decided to get something done about it. If you have a good doctor you should tell them how it is affecting you emotionally and maybe he can hurry the lung function appointments along a bit. Keep our chin up though.

thank u all so much it means a lot to me every one at home just follows me around asking if im ok every two minutes its driving me mad i no they only trying to help but i have never had any help off anyone im asingle mum to 3 and always done for my self does any one no what alpha 1 is as the specailist mentioned a lood test for it that i have to go for

in reply tomadmarc

Hi madmarc

As far as I understand it alpha 1 is genetic but it's quite rare. So I wouldn't worry too much about. It sounds like your specialist is just making sure you haven't got the gene.

Hope this helps x

Took me a yr and half to get anyone to listen and believe what I'm telling them, still struggling now.. Was really depressed with it all last yr to the point of wanting to take a bunch of tablets but, I got through it and so will you chick.. Keep fighting and don't take no for an answer..

Hi Madmarc,

I'm so sorry that you're feeling so rough, I think we can all relate to that.

Please don't give up or do anything silly, there are a lot of people who care about you - least of all your kids & everyone on this site.

Don't hesitate to chew my ear off if you feel the need to have a rant or let off steam anytime.

Chin up, don't let the buggers grind you down.

Take care
