It was an ongoing cycle ,starting with 40mg,and reducing ,problem was no soon had I got over that infection I would get another infection.
On my own bat (although I have a great GP) I put myself on a maintenance dose of 5mg.a day.Frankly I have been so much better, remaining on an even keel, and over some months have actually reduced the prenidisolone.I did tell my GP who felt that it was keeping me so stable it was worth doing ,although did prescribe ! mg.tablets to try to reduce from 5mg per day.
Anyone else tried this. I am 63.

I've been very fortunate so far this year and no infections since my last hospital admission in February (though there were 4 from November to February and now I'm frantically touching wood... lol being as it's Friday 13th!).
Prednisolone is a good drug, but if used too frequently can lose its effectiveness. However, if it's working for you then and your GP doesn't have reservations the go for it !
Continous use of steroids can cause many long term health complications and is not generally recommended.
Make sure you are prescribed weekly Alendronic acid and a daily calcium supplement from the doctors and have an annual eye check at the very least if you are going to continue to self medicate in the long term.
I too was continually having infections and ending up in hospital every two months, My consultant prescribed Azithromycine twice a day two times a week as a maintenance antibiotic and it seems to work for me. I have not been admitted to hospital since January of this year. Long may i tlast. Beaware that there ae long term effects with steriods. I have had to have cataract operations in both eyes due to taking steriods.
I went into hospital in April for a lump removal .... came out with a bad lung infection..
From someone who cycled 12 miles or ran 2 each day, overnight could not walk up the stairs without being breathless.
After countless visits to the GP for anti biotics, being rushed into A&E by ambulance, last week saw a different doctor who put me on Prednisolone for 5 days.... I am currently on day 3 and feel almost human again.. Ran across a car park cos it was raining yesterday...
it is like that for some you could fight the world but do beware you some times come down just as fast and it can cause anger and depression, which lasts a few days but gains made often are kept, but a good pep pill
