pft numbers
spirometry results
pulmonary function test
Mine are so long ago too and I haven't got the paperwork. I do know that my last spirometry revealed that my lung function currently stands at 28% of 'normal'. I was diagnosed with mild COPD almost eleven years ago now, and over the years it's developed into 'severe'. However, I still manage to get out and about, despite being on oxygen 16 hours daily. Maintain a positive attitude throughout and this disease becomes easier to live with.
True Stitch I find it harder in winter though, when the afternoons and evenings are dark...... now the sunshine's here (well, at the moment here, anyway) it's a lot easier
Sorry to say pft and fev are more than I understand. Should I ask my doctor what my numbers are or carry on trying to live with my condition.
thank you Ethel
I am 46, I was diagnosed 7 years ago. I was just getting breathless all the time.
Then my fev1 was 53% My last spiro put my fev1 at 42%. My Arterial blood gas level is around the 35%
My dad was diagnosed 4 years ago and at the the time his fev1 was 66% .In january this year it was 44%.For my dad at 41% he could still get around and walk the dog etc was just out of breath. They will be checking it again in a few weeks due to him rapidly going down hill due to a chest infection .They did say it would be alot lower than his january results,he currently cant go out.Ive got his last blood test results and he said he had an arterial bllood test ,but im not sure which one to look at ?theres a long list !
He stopped smoking 3 weeks ago as he was to ill to even smoke. The breathing attacks have scared even him ,so i doubt he will smoke again. My dad didnt just smoke cigarettes though ! I have loads of hope that he will indeed walk his dog again i just hope when the steroids stop today he continues to keep the weight on as its stayed stable for 3 weeks at 8stone,whilst he has been on them .At the begining of april he was 9 stone 4 .Thanks Stitch x
When you do a 'blow' into a machine to test your lung function the numbers by themselves mean little. It is a bit more complicated than that. Your age and how tall you are, if man or woman, will all alter how your figures would be expected to be. Anything below FEV1 of 80% would be a cause of concern An FEV1 of say 75% would indicate you possibly have mild copd. Mine are normally around 25%, yesterday it was up a bit, 28% so there is a slight day to day variation. Depending on the weather and general well being. COPD comes in four stages. Mild, Moderate, Severe, and Very Severe. Anything below 30% is very severe. Hope this helps.
Numbers are one thing but how it feels is best way to understand cold reality not some printed ticket thing
I blew a FEV 58 in the booth they use in hospitals then last week i blew a FEV of 43 at the consultants clinic on a spirometry , the consultant has very rudely in my opinion suggested my technique was wrong , im very breathless and there is no sign of infection i have spiro test once a year with the community nurse and never have a problem with it , i am having blood gas test on Wednesday first ones in ten years .
