Can you tell me what is involved in p... - Lung Conditions C...
Can you tell me what is involved in pulmonary rehab please.
Hi Fantasy, I just answered you in another thread, basically it helps patients learn how best to manage their condition, its a great course, I am sure you will enjoy it and taking on board all that you will learn on this course can make a big difference to helping your condition remain stable and improve your quality of life.
Hi, I can only say that I think it completely changed my husbands life. It gave him knowledge about COPD, knowledge about the different treatments, showed him the importance of excercise and how to excercise, and he made friends with people who suffer with COPD. It sounds as if I am exagerrating but it has had such a positive effect on him - I am sure you will really enjoy it and will get massive benefits from it. Good Luck!
Thank you so much for that,it's really put my mind at rest about going.just hope I don't have to wait too long before I get an appointment.take care,x
Hi Fantasy, I would say that PR is one of the most helpful things you can do, As Tru1 has said you will learn how to manage your condition. It is partly education & partly exercise. It is very importamt to continue with the exercise at home & once you have completed the course. You will learn how to exercise safely. I'm sure you will enjoy the course.
Best wishes
Jo
It's a great help,many thanks.xx
When I attended the first meeting on the Pulmonary Rehab course I was a little nervous, but I needn't have been. The group consisted of 10 copd'ers, a respiratory nurse and a physiotherapist. The sessions lasted 3 hours (1pm - 4pm) two afternoons per week for approximately 6 weeks
Each session was a variety of 'lectures' on nutrition, medical advice, breathing techniques and a very entertaining, sometimes hilarious, program of physical exercise which involved far from strenuous circuit training ! I never thought I would see myself enjoying a session on a mini trampoline !!
There were also guest speakers from the medical profession on a couple of occasions.
At each session we were invited to set outselves a goal ........ it could be as simple as "I will watch television less next week and walk to the end of the path on at least 3 days" ..... goals that were reasonable easy to achieve.
We were given a book and lots of freebies to take home (a pen, fridge magnet, notebook, etc.) all in a very useful duffel bag with drawstring (similar to the ones we used to keep our PE kit in when we were small).
I hope this goes someway to explaining the delights in store for you, though I do appreciate each region could be different. You must let us know how you get on
Happy PR'ing
I am so envious of all your PR groups. We don't have then here. I did ask and had 1 meeting on my own with a physiotherapist. Your groups sound much more fun and very educational.

Hello Mandy and welcome to the Community
Good luck with the pulmonary rehab, there's nothing to worry about at all and you'll probably have a great time !
Not sure what advice you're seeking though ......... when who comes ? Is it someone who is coming to see you at home ?
