I’m new to the forum, and am enjoying reading the chats!
my back story is that I have a 17yr old daughter with Interstitial Lung Disease (CHild) and she is Autistic too. She is a wonderful, good natured and loving young lady, and enjoys the craic too!
I’ve been finding it difficult to hire a POC for our holiday to Spain, she requires oxygen at nighttime, and may need some on the plane. We live in Belfast, and the company we used to be able to hire a POC from (via her Consultant in hospital) pulled out of NI during Covid. I have contacted a few Oxygen rental companies in GB but they are very expensive (approx £600 for a week), then travel Insurance on top of that, it’s pricey!!I haven’t been able to get any details about companies in the South of Ireland, and we have Irish passports.
Anyone got any info or contacts??
Thanks folks x

Thanks for the reply, yeah my daughters large home oxygen concentrator is with BOC, but unfortunately they do not supply POC or any equipment to be taken out of the UK. I will keep searching, and trying to get a contact for down south.
Thanks so much Pauline for your support and sentiments. I just want my daughter to feel she can do most of the things other teenagers do, yeah not always that easy 😊
That company was who I had the quote from for the hire of the POC, we are still thinking about wether to buy one or not?
I feel for your daughter, its tough for her for sure.
So the company who gave you rental price is very good and helpful ( in my experience )
A word about buying your own POC. They do need srvicing quite regularly which isn't cheap and when it comes to no longer needing them, selling them on unfortunately current regulations mean they can only be sold back to a recognised company eg Pure 02. This is because they are prescription item and under MHRA rules that is the case - assume it is the same in NI but maybe not ? Sadly it mean that the resale value is next to nothing, something like £200.
Would it possible to Crowdfund for the rental costs I wonder ? Or is there a grant from somewhere which might be available to help with rental costs. My son needed an INR machine when he was 18 and I crowdfunded for it and people were amazingly generous. Just a thought ...
Hope you find soimething which will suit your daughter.
Hi some airlines have ib flight oxygen that can be used Ryanair do I think there is a fee to use it but check with your airline to see if they provide it on board Good look
Thanks, we are actually booked with EasyJet, I will check with them, as I have booked a concentrator for Spain before with Oxygen Worldwide (for nighttime use). I’ll keep sussing out, thanks again
Hi I have checked and easy jet unfortunately don't supply oxygen on board I had a POC last year for a week in Cyprus as I flew with Tui it was £600 but got £300 back when I returned it
Oh that’s interesting! I felt like I’d been through every avenue here hospital, community nursing, local MPs (MLAs)etc can’t remember if I’ve tried Oxygen Store before but will definitely try them tomorrow, thanks 🤞
