I’m on high maintenance therapy for my severe asthma. Dec 23 Aspiration pneumonia with ITU and vented. May 24 Severe asthma attack, OTU and vented again. Recently put forward for biological, consultant took case to regional MDT. Have not heard yet if I’m a candidate. Struggling more recently on prednisolone currently. Had three short courses between Oct until now. On a second week of toed and still don’t feel I’ll be safe to be off then. Seeing my consultant Wednesday, anyone here on long term prednisolone? Think that’s the way forward for me. Currently doing pulmonary rehab and struggling. Is there anything else if biological don’t work. Long term asthma sufferer and recent diagnosis of bronchiectasis. Also, the biological won’t help the bronchiectasis will they? Just wondering because if biological do help, still will i have problems with the bronchiectasis. I’m told it’s mild currently. Thank you in anticipation of your help and responses.

Being put forward for biologics but not sure if accepted yet. I read about successes but feel scared in case they don’t help me.

Welcome to the forum.im on biologics for severe eosinophilliac asthma.ive found at times,it does have a positive impact on my severe bronchiectasis + v severe airway collapses.the lessening of hyper reactive response and less mucous from asthma, makes mucous burden frm bronchiectasis easier to cope with, and inflammation is much less.its really worth trying. How do u self manage yr bronchiectasis
I don’t really. I had a CT scan that highlighted the bronchiectasis and the consultant had his clinical suspicions but has now diagnosed it. I am so exhausted by managing the severe asthma I haven’t had a conversation about the impact of bronchiectasis and its management. Oh actually, I take carbecistine 675mg 3 times a day I think maybe for the bronchiectasis as it shifts some mucous for me. I’m also waiting on an appt to see the bronchiectasis nurse for something, maybe they will talk to me about how I manage it then. I do regular chest clearance but I think that’s for asthma, I don’t know to be honest just have a couple of gadgets and do the ABCT breathing am and pm. Thank you so much for your reply, this is very new to me (bronchiectasis) and I also wonder can it improve? Or is it a condition that deteriorates over time?
Yr doing well doing lung clearance with acbt.that is the main element of self care of bronch.on asthma Lung uk website, look at other lung clearance techniques eg huffing, postural drainage etc.every little helps!I use the aerobika flutter device, which helps.also if u have salbutamol,I was advised to use it,to dilate Airways, before lung clearance - makes it bit easier to get up.lots of us are on azithromycin as a prophylactic - it's an antibiotic & is also anti inflammatory in lungs.do yr best to avoid viruses colds, flu, covid etc as they often trigger exacerbations, both of asthma+ bronchiectasis- infections can cause more damage so treat promptly.do u have a rescue pack at home - often antibiotic+ prednisolone.id say it can improve- you can't undo the damage but can manage it.i hope u get approved for biologics
Hello,
Things sound very tough for you, I am so sorry that they are.
I can’t really help either as I have asthma as a component of COPD.
Do you have a care plan to follow ? If you don’t perhaps the PR staff can help you with that one before the course finishes.
Remember the Asthma + Lung UK Helpline specialist nurses are available as well.
I hope you feel better soon and you get the biologics to help you feel better.
Go well
Pauline
Welcome to the forum. It sounds as if you are already taking the meds and doing the things I do for my bronchiectasis. Pat has given you a lot of good advice. Ask your GP or the Pul Rehab physio about Azithromycin and an AeroBika or similar device. Best wishes- hope you soon feel better.
