hi everyone hope you all had a good Xmas and new year.

I have a question about drinking lager in excess over the festive period I suffer with severe asthma and bronchiectasis, and I know I shouldn't but I've drank in excess again does anyone else suffer a flair up of symptoms resulting in poorer sats ,really bad breathlessness.

Hi 👋 I expect your breathlessness is due to the lager being full of gas which will blow up your stomach which will push up on your diaphragm and the diaphragm can push up on your lungs causing breathlessness and low saturations ...If in way concerned seek advice from your GP if you still feel bad hope you get sorted soon enough 🙂

Hi I find anything fizzy or carbonated drinks have the same effect on me causing lots of air bubbles and difficulty getting rid of excess air in lungs

In addition to that, alcohol will have affected sleep pattern + perhaps reduced cough reflex to clear mucous. Can u stop the lager now + work to keep lungs clear

Could you wean yourself on to traditional English ales. (In moderation of course.) Not nearly so fizzy.

Is it all alcohol that makes you like this? I get tight chested when I drink even small quantities of wine and believe that I may have a sulphite allergy. Apparently it’s rare but more likely in asthma sufferers. Sulphites are also found in beers and lagers.

hi jeaniseuge

thx for reply I've been reading up on that and youer quite right sulphites are high in most beers and can have these side effects I wonder if there's a test I could take to confirm this ??
