Too much mucos...help!
I have a lot of mucus too from sinus/allergies/copd. I take MUCUS RELIEF once in the morning and then again in the afternoon. It THINS it out. This is not expensive, at least in the US it isn't! But I can sure tell the difference when I don't take it! Also I go on my nebulizer a couple times a day..that brings it up and out! Janet
What do you use in your nebulizer to help with the mucus Janet?
Ipratropium Bromide 0.5 mg and Albuterol Sulfate 3 mg......good luck! Janet
Sounds too much to cope with. You should go to see your GP and have a check-up next week.
Take good care of yourself.
Been trying to get an appointment for the past week will try again tomorrow.thank you all for your helpful advice
If you can’t get an urgent GP appointment try a walk-in centre or A&E so you get a proper check-up, get your oxygen levels checked..you can always try to phone the BLF helpline.
I agree with Fran - you need to see your GP. Have you been prescribed carbocisteine, which thins out the mucus and makes it easier to get rid of. Good luck x
Look up carbocisteine on the site. It sorted me out.
Here are a few ways of clearing mucus :
After using albuterol nebulization...........use inhalation sodium chloride .7% solution (ask your Dr. for this). This helps to bring up the mucus. Can cause exacerbation .
If you can't tolerate the sodium then use Acetylcysteine and carbocysteine
Ask for a vest to help vibrate your lungs...AffloVest (battery operated - mobile) or Hillroom vest.
Mucinix - twice a day .........comes in 600 and 1200 ( ask Dr. what works best for you)
Drink lots of water.
If your ever admitted to hospital.....ask if they have a META NEB device for clearing out mucus. Uses of oxygen and your nebulizer. Immediate relief. it's like having a motorized Acapella . ( look up the video on this. )
Its a daily struggle to clear mucus with bronchiectasis. Keep asking medical personal that you meet ...nurses, respiratory therapist.....for different ways to help you. They are the front line people who deliver this therapy. Personally they have extreme experience with patients because they see it all the time daily.
This is all very interesting . I`m prescribed 2 puffs Ventolin 4 times daily to be taken 30 mins in advance of 2 puffs Fostair 4 times daily . Also Genuair 1 puff twice daily . I use a Cornet device for 15 mins during the 30 mins and this brought up much phlegm . However , towards the end of April , I missed some of the Ventolin puffs and felt much better with much reduced breathlessness and phlegm . So this past month I have not used any Ventolin and usage of my Cornet has not been phlegm productive . I have Bronchiectasis and have felt really rough for 2+ years but now my breathlessness has all but gone as has my phlegm . I`m also taking 5mg Prednisolone daily and have done so for past 70 days . I am seeing my Consultant next Wednesday 30th and am eager to hear her views as to the remarkable change in my circumstances .
