I had chest infection 3 months ago, and used to get a lot of green phelgm. Now it is much better but and green phelgm is gone but occasionally I do get bit of yellowish mucus thrown out. Anybody with similar experience post chest infection.

Hello rpa2002,

Sorry to hear you are still recovering from a chest infection, I hope it clears up soon and you start to feel better.

It may be a good idea to get back in touch with your GP as you mentioned that you are still coughing up mucus and some of it's yellow.

Alternatively if you are in the UK, please call us on 0300 222 5800 (Mon- Fri, 9am to 5pm) and we will be happy to put you in touch with one of our friendly repository nurses who can offer you some advice on managing your condition.

Thank you and take care,

Helpline Team

Make sure that you work on removing any mucus which is in your lungs. This is to prevent the germs having a party and breeding in the warm wet atmosphere of the mucus. If it goes darker again or there is a lot more, go back to your GP for more antibiotics

Hi it can take a few weeks but definitely keep an eye on it that it doesn't turn nasty again clear it out as much as you can until it starts to go back to normal colour

Chest infections can be very reluctant to give up. Keep an eye on it and contact your surgery if it really won't go away.

Hi, my mucus sample showed that I still had a chest infection after a course of doxycycline even though I felt fine, so my Dr prescribed a longer course. A week or so after finishing them I still had yellowish phlegm, so I sent another sample to be tested convinced it hadn’t cleared and that came back clear! I’m still bringing it up, but feel fine. It’s just so confusing isn’t it?! As Swizzy has advised I’m keeping a close eye on its colour x

It may be bits thatve been down there a bit longer.its gd that it's coming up.id not worry but if u begin to feel unwell, if it increases in quantity, thickness or colour, ask to put a specimen in+ get chest listened to. Drink extra fluids to help thin it + do some deep slow breaths, hold then exhale slowly, helps to stretch lungs+ get bits out x
