Unfortunately it's not a new drug, it's a new way of treatment people with certain types of asthma &/or copd. Most of us asthmatics have no idea what type of asthma we have so it's just a little scary that they'll blanket use it for severe asthma attacks without using steroids .

《Benralizumab is already used in the most severe cases》a biologic which has been used for some years already

Hi Pen,

Hope this helps to clarify the circumstances? As you say it isn’t a ‘new drug’ .

So folk who already use this type of medication ( biologics) see tested prior to being offered the injection.

Eosinophilia levels have to have reached a certain level before they qualify for it. Plus at the moment it is very expensive so I think that will guarantee that it will only be targeted to patients who are likely to benefit.

Twice in the past, during a severe exacerbations I have had my eosinophilic levels looked at to see they are implicated. So far so good.

I know 4 people who use biologics for their asthma and 3 of them have a much improved quality of life- isn’t that wonderful ?

The sun is up and it looks like being a settled day.

Go well

Pauline

Two more years of research to go sadly but fingers crossed it will be effective, cheap and universally available. About time something new and better was developed.
