Hi you lovely people with this awful thing . i did smoke for years . then 9 yrs ago went to lincoln for my late husbands sisters 80th bday went out for a CIGarette . came back walking up stairs to the dining area well OUT OF BREATH frightenng so on the monday got in at drs done tests YES LOOKS LIKE COPD and it was never had a cigarette after that day . NOW i have got to see local nurse respitary at centre then 2nd OCT TO SEE ARESPITARY DR SO I dont no what to expect can any one give ,me a clue hahahah ty love Sandra xxx i did go to leicester hospital about oxygen but levels were ok

A lot can change in 9 years devon29. At the very least you can expect a full lung function test. Check your letter of confirmation, it should tell you whether of not to take yr inhalers before the appointment.

For a proper diagnosis as COPD can be either emphysema or chronic bronchitis you should get an X-ray and CT scan and possibly a broncoscopy. A lung function test only measures your lung performance if your lung function is down it can’t tell why hence the other tests. I have emphysema and Aspergillosis both reduce lung function so my chest consultant makes sure I get at least annual X-rays and scans.
