quickened breathing episodes

I currently have mild emphysema but I think my condition is worsening quite quickly.

Recently I have been having short episodes of heavier breathing - most mornings & some afternoons. It's not yet serious enough to use a rescue inhaler & only lasts 15 - 30 minutes but it's noticeable. Has anyone experienced this ? Is this an exacerbation ?

Hi Geoff,

I would advise having a check up for your condition as unfortunately, it does deteriorate over time. Have you every had a spirometry? I started off as having mild COPD but now I'm at the severe stage as my lungs never fully recovered after an exacerbation that had me hospitalised.

An exacerbation is a sudden worsening of your condition and it sounds to me (I'm not a medical professional) that you might have got to the stage where you need a maintenance inhaler. These help to prevent your condition from getting worse as opposed to the rescue inhalers.

Apologies if I'm telling you how to suck eggs but I think that you definitely new a review asap.

Good luck and let us know how you get on?

Could be chest infection. Get a sputum test done. Or could be hay fever. It's the time of year for mould spores to be about. I take antihystamine from February when the trees flower into October, when the mould spore season starts to wane.
