I have received this message from Health Unlocked Admin. Hopefully this allays any concerns.
"I can confirm that the message regarding changing passwords on HealthUnlocked is legitimate and part of our ongoing efforts to maintain security. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please feel free to contact us"

Thanks for that Cas. As we are constantly being told not to click on links in emails as this is the way that scammers operate, it would be a good idea if HU heeded this and asked members to change their passwords by going to the website.
thank you for the clarification. It’s just unfortunate how this was done. It looked EXACTLY like a scam. It caused a lot of anxiety and worry to many people.
No mention of “Brett”, of whom no one had previously heard. (Personally, I’ve never met anyone in real, UK, life called Brett. It’s not a UK name). But a foreign scam could quite likely masquerade under such a name.
As @Swizzy has said, no mention of securely changing passwords on the website.
If HU does have ‘ongoing efforts to maintain security’ - which should include every HU account, not just some, why have I NOT been told to do the same?
Any “Brett” who has been harvesting peoples’ passwords can easily come out with a message purporting to come from A+LUK Helpline Team and, without any further substantiation, just repeat that the original post was ‘legitimate’.
And that final “please feel free to contact us” flies in the face of everyone’s experience of having tried to do just that.
I have to admit I’m a bit sceptical too. I’ve not been asked to change my password either. So it’s clearly not a “site wide security measure”.
And I agree that asking people to change it via the website (by using whichever method they normally use) rather than to follow a link would be more reassuring.
Not a Roger Moore fan, then? His character in "The Persuaders" was Lord Brett Sinclair. I suspect there are quite a few early to mid 1970s born Bretts out there. 😇
Brett definitely exists: if you type “@“ followed by his username, he comes up on the list (this is actually quite a good way of making sure that anyone you refer to in a post gets alerted to the post). I had a PM conversation with him over the weekend and this post from Admin seems to be the result of that; at least it means I wasn’t having a conversation with a ringer who’d hacked into his HU account!
It might have something to do with your browser - there is some guidance on this on the HU website. Click the menu in the top right hand corner, click "Get help using this site" and a green box appears in the bottom left of the screen. Log in advice is in the second item down (see attached screenshot)
IT people are usually excellent at their work. Unfortunately though they may not be great communicators with people, know anything about health issues or understand that others aren't so hot & quick with IT. That was the case some years ago when I spent a few hours at the London head office. The two IT guys were young & lovely chaps and freely admitted they knew nothing about lung health & weren't great at understanding others. (I would have ignored the request to change password too).
That’s the problem with specialisation. We suffer from it here more than most places. Mainly from consultants that know nowt about your particular lung problem. 🙄
