Hi Currygirl

First things first, can this b fixable by building up your fitness regime slowly but surely to the required level. One step at a time as the saying goes.

Best wishes BERNARDINE xx

Good thinking, Bernadine. Good luck, Currygirl in improving your fitness. Two to five seems a drastic jump. Would 3 perhaps do for quieter times? (Ask your doctor.)

Sorry to hear that. I too jumped like you but to be honest I struggled with the lower prescription since day one. I think it’s such a subjective way to calculate what you need. Some days when I feel my chest is clearer I can go lower. Days when I’m symptomatic with cold chest infection or generally rundown I need more. Also my walking pace varies. Don’t be to hard on yourself about the portable concentrator it may be suitable for those slightly more sedentary roles. I’m not sure if you’re on it ambulatory.

Yes it's ambulatory at the moment

Please don't be disappointed in yourself. In august last year I was moved up from 4 to 6 on exertion and felt so much better. However, I no longer need it at rest or through the night and find I can potter around the house quite happily on 4 L. I have finished a pulmonary rehab course though which helped massively. Maybe worth asking about the course.

Yes I have been on the course but didn't do anything at home!!

I didn't do much at home but they offered me a 12 week trial at the gym which I'm just over half way through now. I go to classes and exercises in water and it's made so much difference to my breathing.

Can you use pools with chlorine in and how with oxegen x

You can wear your cannula while bathing or showering. My gym do a 'good boost' class in water. It's exercises but we stay by the edge of the pool as it's all via iPad. I'm allowed to take my oxygen in and have it by the edge of the pool in case I need it. Some people leave it by the edge, swim a lap then take a puff of oxygen 😂 I don't think I'll be able to swim without it at the minute but I can exercise by the edge.

hi curry girl yes when I did my 6 minute walk test my settings are between 4 to 6. If I do an exercise class I do need 6, otherwise I find keeping to 5 helps. I only use mine on being active and excertion . I do feel so much better since having it. Take care.

Hi Currygirl, I know exactly how you feel as I had the same, I too find it quite heavy & when I was on the lower number was looking at getting a lighter one, it is very disheartening & I am currently giving myself a talking to in my head if you know what I mean, I am going to try as someone else suggested to you, building up my fitness regime, fingers crossed 🤞🏻 it helps, I was given it for ambulatory use only, keep in touch & let us know how you get on, good luck 🌺💐🌸 xx

One of my concentrators only goes to up to no 3. But I have another one that goes up to 10.My prescription is no 1 when sitting and no3 when walking around

I think mine will be increased as I'm very out of breath on no 3.

When I bath and wash my hair I turn it up to no 4. Then put it back down.

It's scary isn't it I know how you feel..

Hope it gets sorted. Sending love Sheila ❤️ xx

I go in the bath and wash my hair with the cannula on. My Respiratory team know I do this. I don't get the tubing wet I hang it over the bath. . My hairdresser did a perm and highlights for me with the oxygen on.. where there's a will there's a way lol xx Hope you get your oxygen sorted ,think I'm on the wrong setting as still out of breath when moving around xx.Sheila xx
