The Rollercoaster.

You pay to go on rollercoasters

But COPD is free.

Down you go when feeling bad,

Back up with Auntie B's

Coughing up stuff is terrible,

But it's lovely when you stop.

Always carry tissues,

Don't get caught upon the hop.

You deal with things discreetly,

So people never guess,

That though you never look it,

You're suffering some distress.

The big thing to remember,

Is just do as you're told.

Though COPD is terrible

It won't stop you getting old.

This getting old malarkey isn't all fun is it Don, but like the roller coaster we do have up days as well, making the most of them is what wears us out lol x

Getting old isn’t much fun for all of us but COPD brings additional problems which are not apparent to casual observers, as you will well know. I find it irritating when people can’t understand why you can no longer do things which older but fitter folk can still do.

I love this poem. It should be handed out to new members here who worry about their initial diagnosis, to explain it all and help alleviate their concerns 👍

It’s true that fear and anxiety can cause more trouble than the COPD. I remember when this site used to be recommend to newly diagnosed patients, but i doubt that happens now after the name change.

A name that still makes no sense.

Well I'm newly diagnosed and managed to stumble upon you! Must admit the name is confusing.

So true Don. I used to love the Big Dipper in Battersea fun fair, but lung troubles aren't such fun. I hope Smudge is waiting for you when you stagger off the roller coaster. xxx

🤣It's so true! Brilliant as always. I swapped Bronchiectasis where you have written COPD. Always carry about ten tissues with me just to walk up my road and back. (BTW is Auntie B your name for Antibiotics? Took me a while🤪 but am guessing that's what it is). Hope you and Smudge are taking it easy 🐈‍⬛😊xxx

Yes Auntie B (aka antibiotics) comes to our aid when the going gets rough.

Great poem Don! Made me smile and think of my dad who suffered with it. BTW, like you, I still don't like the negativity the name of the site conjures up in my mind.

Don: I look forward to your cheery rhymes whenever I check this forum. My husband and I just returned yesterday from a 12 day group tour called "Highlights of Great Britain" - we are still awestruck. I actually feel better upon our return to USA than when we left; perhaps it's the influence of the many wonderful people we met along the way!
