Sputum

I noticed that when my chest infection is clearing I get tiny blackish speckles in my sputum ,anyone else ever notice this in there sputum ,my infections are usually the haemophilus bug

Hello, I've had exactly the same but have no idea what it is.

Could be a number of things. For instance, specks of old blood caused by coughing bouts during the infection which are now breaking down, residual gunk finally coming up after not smoking for some time, specks from air pollution released as the lungs are clearing.

The main positive is at least the specks are coming up and out rather than staying in the lungs.

I don't think it is blood or tar,but there agian it could be

I get black specks sometimes

& put it down to traffic/car fumes

Do you go out walking much?
