Very clever scam. Please read.

Well I nearly got caught on this one. Just had a phone call about loft insulation. I was about to hang up when British Lung Foundation was mentioned. Apparently they had commissioned a report that found that fibre glass loft insulation was a lung irritant- quite believable especially when delivered in a cockney type accent. I was seriously thinking about agreeing to the free survey but then thought does BLF still exist. So I told the lady I would like to look into it further.

Searched online for BFL report and on the blog is a statement about this.

It is a scam. No report has been done. BFL have not issued a warning about loft insulation. Take care people- this is the cleverest one I have ever come across.

Last week I got a fake job offer scam claiming I was getting offered a job without an interview and I told them to get lost!

This was talked about on Morning Live TV programme last week - remember their little saying. ‘If it’s out of the blue, it’s not for you!!!’ Never go for any type of cold calling - phone or doorstep, also watch out for those dodgy emails - check the email address they come from. Well done you for doing your research - I google everything these days!!!!!!

I have had a loft insulation one a number of times , but always put the phone down quickly so I don’t know if BLF was mentioned .

Trouble is , I then annoy them and they ring back at another time .

Thanks for the post , I hate these scams which take advantage of people .

Troilus thank you so much for the warning and the link. These companies will try anything to get a sale, latest one is to remove all old stuff in loft and replace with latest materials at a princely sum of £10,000 for a terraced house .

Those scammers really like to use fear. Yes, the old home insulation was made with fiberglass, which can be harmful if inhaled. And it can be irritating to the skin in contact. But I think, in this day and age, fiberglass insulation is not used.
