Do you have any other underline health issues with respiratory etc?

I am so poorly with this unable to work ,as it is causing asthma flare ups but I think I still have the infection as my mucus is not clearing?

Hi Avocado, I've also suffered with haemophilis influenzae & from what the consultant says, doxycycline is the choice antibiotic to treat it. I started with a 2 week course of single dose but it returned, so then had a 2 week double dose to clear it I have copd & bronchiectasis. Hope this helps.

Hi yes i had the same infection for 3 years. Normal antibiotics didnt work so was referred to the hospital who did lots of lung function and xray showed white mass in left lung. I was very ill. I ended up taking Azythromycin 500mg for 9 months 3 times a week and finally god rid of it for good. Wishing you luck as its very stubbourn bug. Karen xxx

I was told 4 years ago that haemophilus was the cause of all my troubles. It took quite a lot of strong drugs to subdue it, including doxycycline and co-amoxicillin, plus Clarithromycin which I could not stomach. I was also prescribed an AeroBika, which certainly helped to bring the gunk up. Which kind of penicillin are you on? It needs something strong to knock haemophilus out. I hope you will eventually get rid of it and remain free of it as I have.

Hi ,I’m on amoxi clav ,the thing is my ct scans and X-ray images show no damage or the infection anymore (I am an asthmatic)but I still have the symptoms the same ! I also wanted to ask that is it one of the symptoms to have terrible leg pains ,heaviness and weakness?I also came out in circular bruises all on my arms and legs .

I believe, but don't take this as gospel- I may have got it wrong- that inflammation can remain once the infection has gone and cause one to feel quite ill. I don't know if some one can supply more advice on this. As for leg aches, I have had them too, but nothing like as bad as yours. Certainly no bruises. xx

Thankyou for reassuring me that I haven't got this wrong. They talked about it at one of the previous ELF conferences and it seemed to supply an answer to some of my questions. xx

I had chest infections for years off and on before bronchiectasis diagnosis . I'm asthmatic too. Amoxicillan didn't work for me and my understanding is that's because HI is a gram negative bacteria with a bio film around it that requires something like doxycycline to penetrate. I was also given intravenous Tazocin and did that at home. I have rescue doxycycline at home and we need two weeks worth. Contact your respiratory consultant. Goid luck, these periods are not easy . Btw I was offered steroid tablets but declined . I just hate the side effects. Things have settled for me and now I'm on Fostair 200 plus 100 morning and night and incruse. Has worked well . Stay away from under 5s if you can. They are the worst carriers!

Hi Avacodo. I've had multiple infections with Haemophilis and Doxycycline clears it up but it kept returning. I am now on Doxy 8 months of the year, I take a break during the summer months. I have several lung conditions including ILD. Since being on Doxy permenently, I've had my best year!

That's rare in adults I read and can take a long time to clear. Have you had a second opinion? I assume the diagnosis was by sputum or blood sample?

I'm on my 12th week of antibiotic s for HI ,my gp keeps giving me Doxycycline as that is the one my sputum tests says will work on it ,to me this is not working ,the other thing it hinders for me is I cant take my rheaumatiod medication while on antibiotics ,fed up with it
