has any one used an incentive spirometer, i saw a recommendation for it on Health line copd,

i h aven't had a spirometry test since before covid, despite being in and out of hospital at least 10 times since then, according to health line it can help strengthen your lungs. thanks now for any replies.

Can you explain what an incentive thermometer is exactly please. I've never come across the term.

Hi Whit,

Yes I have used one, although many years ago. Didn’t find it very helpful at the time.

I think it helps to strengthen the diaphragm and intercostal muscles rather than the lungs.

You could try breathing exercises which are especially for people with lung conditions before spending money on something which may or may benefit you.

Have a look on the Asthma + Lung website. There are probably breathing exercises on there to look at.

Go well.

Ooooooh yes I know, warmer dryer air really helps me. Everyone is different aren’t they ? Breathing exercises and PR exercises are a win win for me.

I guess you would have nothing to lose by getting except some pennies ?

Go well.

They gave me one to use at the hospital after I had major surgery a year ago and wasn’t able to move around much. I believe it helps exercise the lungs to hopefully prevent pneumonia until a person can become more active.
