toothpaste trigger?

last night when I was brushing my teeth my asthma really kicked off, I couldn’t breathe out so couldn’t breathe in. Luckily I had an inhaler in the bathroom. I’ve struggled to breathe when brushing my teeth before but never as badly as this.

Does anyone else struggle with toothpaste? Is sensitivity to toothpaste even a thing? Does anyone know of a kind of less reactive toothpaste?

I have asthma and bronchiectasis and am very allergic to peanuts treenuts and seafood and have the usual airborne allergies and sulphite sensitivity

Thank you for reading all of this, Emily

Thank you, I struggle with brain fog too, so much since I had covid 2 years ago. I’m desperate for it to get better.

A fluoride free toothpaste is a great idea, thank you

Oh this brain fog is such a bugger, me over two years now, was given covid by my double vax friend.. at the time we were led to believe it wasn’t transmissible from those vax folk.. she was the only one who came to my house, tried a new wine from m my glass & cuddled me upon leaving.. I was 8 days in hospital & have never been the same since.. my anis horriblis.. lung cancer ( tumour) heart attack, covid all in 6mths.. but hey I’m a survivor.. up ‘em all xx

Hi , I too have reactions to fluoride toothpaste so I now use Weleda brand which is fluoride free. All the best .

Hi Emily, if you've tried Essential Oils before and are not allergic to them, you can get toothpaste with Organic Essential Oils in them from NHR in Brighton. I've purchased Oils etc from them for many years now and their products and Oils are very high quality. I was actually prescribed non fluoride Toothpaste bby my dentist BUT was advised that this might cause more cavities and other problems. So I use both types. Good luck

Have you looked up interactions with each ingredient in the toothpaste your using?

Maybe try the Asthma UK helpline for advice .

I wonder if it was the peppermint oil if there was any in your toothpaste .

I couldn’t bear peppermint toothpaste when I was pregnant a lifetime ago .

Takes quite an effort to clean teeth when breathless , plus the mouth is open and that changes breathing depth and rate .

Maybe your pharmacist could recommend a toothpaste , tell them your allergies …my daughter uses Arm and Hammer sensitive .

I use the same toothpaste as your daughter but in recent weeks it has disappeared and I have not been able to buy any. I have seen one for whiter teeth and another which does something else but no "sensitive". Has your daughter been able to buy any and if so where from? If you can ask her it would be appreciated.

I suddenly developed a problem with toothpaste over 20 years ago. I’m not sure if it’s the fluoride or other ingredients but have since used fluoride free natural toothpaste with no problem. Currently I buy Aloe Dent (there are several varieties but I get a fluoride free one) and Sarakan.
