When COPD Symptoms seemed to have Changed,

I used to get more flare ups than i do now, some horrible flare up as I have asthma as well.

Strange over last year or so the flare ups have lessened, not sure I would not rather have them back, t

Flare ups seemed to have been replaced by a drop of 50% or more but, my breathing is worse.

I soon get out of breath even with just a trip to kitchen - Worse than when my main problems was COPD Flare Ups.

Anyone else experienced this?

Is this the asthma playing up Ern? I know mine has been worse this spring than the last couple of springs. I guessed the tree pollens must be higher.Either way, a chat with you GP or asthma nurse might be the way to go. If it is the asthma side playing up a quick course of prednisone might be useful or an increase of preventer. Your GP/asthma/respiratory nurse should be to advise on best course of treatment. Best not to let it ride.

I have a emergency pack of pred…..my last but one exacerbation I asked if I could use them and have them replaced .Had to visit the Health Centre , examined and told not to take the steroids , but go back if breathing worse. I thought after 25 years + I knew my body best , but I I had to ride it out …..more damage done ?

I am allowed to take mine when I wish but, can't take pred because of other treatment. I knew where i was with a flare up, wheezy breathing , but this is just tight breathing like I am not getting enough air, which I must be...

I have a rescue pack in Troilus - Pred was fine for wheezing, this is simple very short off breath. I can't take Pred at moment except in a life threat situation, would interfere with the immune treatment I receive....I have asthma alone from COPD but even so, I wheeze with asthma,

I would contact someone at the surgery Ern. The shortness of breath could be to do with asthma. There maybe something they can add in or increase or change that won’t interfere with your immune system.

I am in a similar situation , fewer exacerbations ( at the end of one now , mind you ) but more breathless .I tried to explain at my COPD review it was a different sort of breathlessness than before , just different, not constricted throat asthma …..can’t breathe sort of breathlessness.

Maybe lack of exercise , or did I catch Covid March / April 2020 before widespread testing . I had many symptoms . Don’t know .

I am trying to move more , but it’s difficult ….and relax through the breathlessness panic.

Sounds not unlike the breathing I am wondering about " it was a different sort of breathlessness than before , just different, not constricted throat asthma " - That is what I am experiencing, and getting worse. I doubt I have had COVID, I have that many other problems, I reckon COVID would see me off.

I do wonder if because everybody has been staying in more and isolating that the germs havent been doing the rounds so we havent been using antibiotics and steroids, apart from the fact that these get rid of infections and inflammation, I may be wrong to suggest this but do wonder if in some way they protect us as well. But I would get yourself checked up with your gp and make sure that you are on the right meds and nothing else is brewing. Take care x

Never thought of that, I think if it's not asthma, then maybe it could be cardiac and I have some problems there will ask for phone appointment I think.

Did you read the post from Sazza57 three days ago regarding her inhalers and how breathless she became and that was down to her heart, best to get checked asap x

No did not read that but it's possible, I have Angina, AF and a leaky valve, any one of those could be the cause I expect.

Hi Ern007 I am just the same, I don’t seem to get many flare up but my breathing is considerably worse. I think all that has happened through the Pandemic has affected a lot of us. Barbs x

I have recently after a trip to see a new consultant.I get very breathless like yourself, after explaining what was happening and him observing me walking and huffing and puffing, he announced I don`t believe it is your lungs it is more likely your heart? He now has me going through the spectrum of tests which was done not that long ago. It is worth mentioning that I am severe Emphysema and have walking difficulties / Chronic pain and a few degenerative vertebrae. HTE last few years I had spent more time in hospital than at home. he said "whatever you are doing, keep doing it as you are going in the right direction??? OK.

I am a slave to hospitals at moment for other things I have Emphysema but it could be cardiac, I have IHD,AF and a leaking valve - So breathing with no wheeze could be cardiac

I'd suggest u see dr or respiratory nurse as they may make tweaks to medications,to help.x

Hi,. Am In a similar situation. I contacted my chest consultant ,as I was rather concerned about my breathing ,couldn't get any sense from GP surgery at all. ..started last October.

He came up with a possible diagnosis, and requested CT scan and a breathing test

to take place over several months. Now feeling better but still very breathless .

My lung function has dropped which is worrying and I am much slower .

I am full of various aches and pains which is very new to me.

Must admit I feel COVID could be to blame, although I did not catch , I stayed in doors so much to reduce the risk of catching the infection exercise was forgotten about .

Jo. ☺️

Hi Buzzytruk My lung function has dropped, your post has just reminded me that I had 5 CT scans and a PET scan about two years ago thinking I could have lung cancer, Which they say i did not have but more scarring, so could be that or cardiac. getting some good answers on here today,,

Hi Ern, I can't add to what anyone has said but maybe a good idea to get a check up with your GP or practice nurse if you haven't had one for a while. My breathing has gone a lot worse since last winter which my GP thinks is due to a deterioration in my lung function. Best wishes Carole cx
