just seen on TV reference to Pompeii that’s been partly buried for 2000 years. When toured Italy 60+ years, visited Pompeei but only men were allowed in some parts! i wonder if this policy is still active. Other ladies I was with were not impressed particularly as we all paid same fee. Jean

Pompeii Italy
We’ve been to Pompeii too Jean in 1971. I don’t remember a men only policy back then but I could be wrong. We climbed up Mount Vesuvius and Pete’s mum nearly slipped into the crater. Xxx🩷🥰
There where places only men cold go, one was 'historical brothels' I mean to visit. Really going back to the 70s anything was possible then.

"When the brothel building in Pompeii was opened for tourists in the 1970s, women were not allowed inside (assuming due to the "explicit" nature of the 2,000 year old images over the doors inside). Does anyone have any idea when women were finally allowed to see the brothel?

Hi Jean, Daughter and I went round Pompeii a few years ago. There were no restrictions on where you went, except that some streets were closed because they were in a dangerous state. Daughter was keen to see a brothel. It was incredibly small and cramped with lewd paintings on the wall. Enough to encourage anyone to a life of chastity. There were some pretty shocking objects in the Naples museum too.
Like Sassy and Pete we went to Vesuvius. I sent daughter on ahead, because I was not sure I could get to the top. But I did. In very small stages, leaning on the fence at times to get my breath back, pretending to admire the non-existent view. I was just about to give up when a nice young man told me I was nearly there. I staggered on- hurrah- made it. But where was Sue? She couldn't disappear off a mountaintop, could she? Well yes, obviously. A quick look in the crater confirmed she hadn't fallen in. The energetic little dear had walked round the rim of the crater to the very highest point. I declined to try that. I think this was before my diagnosis with bronc, but I was pretty breathless at this time. xxx
Thanks for your interesting replies. We were touring Italy by coach, flew to Venice where we all met, and our informative guide and coach driver. Went all way down, Pompei most south. We chose this holiday as it was only marginally more expensive than two weeks in UK, and knew the warmth would be good for my lungs. Jean.x
The tiling and plumbing r fantastic x
did you notice the pharmacy next door to the brothel?
have tried to add to this but my computer router is hacked and 3 times i have been unable to do so . normally get sent to drafts but HU is different. cannot get this sorted myself . no help from suppliers of router and none frome which who can do remote checks . not computer virus itself but router with both phone and computer are being used by somr toad who doesnt let me use it as i wish !
it was so fascinating to see the extent of the excavation - the plumbing !!!!
Yes, though it’s at least 60 years since went I recall the extent of excavation, and the smooth road. Thought would go back again sometime, didn’t happen as busy going round most of Europe, and the States etc. there are some amazing places to be visited, Now I just have to be content with UK, regards, Jean
trying again . i went to herculaneum instead when i had the chance and it was so atmospheric . few people and could be alone in a building . eventually went down to the sea where the people t living there here had gone to escape when they had warning . some must have scapedin the fishing boats but there are skeletons in the boat house s . a large number of those just lying as they had died . very sad
I went into Pompei about ten years ago so Women were allowed then
