Short-cycling Oxygen concentrator?

Quick one, here: Is it bad to short-cycle a home O2 Concentrator? By "short", I mean (roughly) 1 hour on, 2 hours off & repeat several times per day.

Is it harmful to the compressor, catalyst / sieve or other parts?

Fwiw, the machine is a CAIRE Companion 5 Eco w/ ca. 2400 hrs.

I'm asking as I only really need O2 when I sleep, and I nap several times per day.

Thank you.

Did it come with instructions? If it did, what do they say?

If you visit caireinc.com/product/compan... you win find various information sheets towards the bottom of the page.

It came without any docs, but I pulled down owners & service manuals from the web.

I found no comments on short-cycling the machine. This is why I'm asking.

I don’t know the answer, can you contact the manufacturer and ask them maybe ?

I am no expert but I can see no reason why it might cause harm. I do suggest you do not re-charge it every time - repeated charges from a high level is said (I know not really|) to reduce battery life. One tip I was given - it can extend battery life if you discharge it completely every so often.

Since we're discussing a home O2 concentrator, batteries aren't part of the equation.

This said, your comments about occasional full discharge of batteries may or may not apply, depending on the type of battery chemistry in use. There are also recommendations for the maximum charge percentage, based on chemistry.

Charging & discharging conditions as related to the life cycles of storage batteries is a well-researched subject, a whole science in itself.
