Travel insurance for carrying poc (additional oxygen)

Hi my mum is looking for travel insurance for travelling with 2l oxygen on flights but most prices are in excess of £1000 anybody able to help

I believe that's about what it cost nowadays depending on the lung disease as well as O2 usage. Some members have had better quotes from Staysure. From what I've read here getting the O2 supply can be problematic when owned by NHS/ oxygen suppliers, also getting supplies at the destinations set up has to be arranged too. Good luck to you mum

Hi, I think it will be a lot easier, I've read here that members using O2 have struggled getting foreign supplies plus British suppliers won't let their property out of the country. That's about all I know really ( from reading other patient's issues on the forum), I dont use it myself.

Will you be travelling with oxygen cylinders on the aircraft? If you are won’t it weigh a lot and will you have to pay for the extra weight? I bought a portable concentrator, which was expensive but I’ve had my money’s worth from it

It would be best to speak to your travel agent or an agent from the airline. You will also need a fit to fly test done at your Respiratory department by a Physiologist to check if you will need oxygen whilst in transit and the amount you will need.

On long haul flights the airline will supply the oxygen on a first come first serve basis.

Did you get a list with the names of travel insurance companies when you were first put on oxygen? I got an envelope with a list and I was able to go online and check for the cheapest but also the best.

Hi Maureen I'm looking at the portable POC and we may be eligible for one to take with us. Not sure if they will work rho. Mum needs 2litres pm Continuously so a POC would be better I think . Which one did you buy? We've seen some for £160 and £270 but there are some for £2000

I bought Innogen One G2 which was very expensive especially the spare battery. I use 6liters of oxygen.
