I had a large pneumothorax 6ks ago had chest drain and suction was told all now ok but I’m paranoid it’s going to happen again . Is it common to get twinges and and odd pains after having a pneumothorax? I have another X-ray coming up I feel it’s consuming all my thoughts.

This is not something I can help you with. But there a many members here who have had a pneumothorax. I am sure they will be able to offer you reassurance. I think you might benefit from talking to a doctor? Do you have a GP who could help you?

Hi like you I had a pneumothorax I believe in 2019 and like you I worried myself stupid that it would happen again but touch wood it hasn't and I now find I hardly ever think about it.

Can only wish you well and hope you are as lucky as I have been.

I also had a big pneumothorax in 1990 and was told that the other lung may collapse in the next three years, as I was not yet 35 yrs old. I kept worrying for years after, that the one that had the pneumothorax would go again, and the other lung would pop. Neither did, it is natural to worry after such a traumatic episode, wishing you all the best and keep asking for reassurance from your care team.

thank you it’s nice to speak to people who have gone through the same thing and it’s the reassurances as well.

Hi Pasta247One of my lungs collapsed when I was 10, while i was waiting for my tonsils adenoids out and sinus drilled ... so was ferried off to the specialist hospital and had it drained ... apparently it inflates back up again ... after about 2-3 weeks went back to the local hospital to have the others done..

I was very confused at that age that I couldn't find a scar ?? Something I dreaded so happy about that lol

I'm 71 now and from that age of 10 to now it's remained inflated ... even though its scarred, been infected by the horrid bugs we got many times ... so I hope that helps you feel assured

Hi..I was in Hospital for the first week of April, following a Pneumothorax, for which my Drs surgery were treating my for Pneumonia the first week, then said my lngs were clear the following week. I was given two weeks of Antibiotics, steroids and an Inhaler, plus from day one - a 3 week wait for an Xray! Following my Xray I was Blue lighted by Ambulance to another Hospital with more facilities. I had a drain fitted and was told had I not gone when I did I could have died as the collapsed lung was slowly pushing my heart into my other Lung, which would explain the horrendous pains I was having in my heart during the third week. I have had a follow up Xray and appointment with Consultant, who said my Lung was now fine, however there is a chance it may happen again. I am now so anxious as every twinge and sound in my body appears to be on the side of the collapse, leaving me in fear that it's happening again, though I do take a few deep breaths and Lung seems fine. I have been suffering with bad indigestion and few pains in my chest for the past week. I'm trying to stay positive, but feel paranoid, like yourself and I'm living under a black cloud just waiting for it to happen again. I have no faith in my Drs as they failed me the last time.
