can I ask how long you’ve been on Fostair

For about 4yrs

First of all. The bronchiectasis guidelines say 500 -750mg of cipro twice a day for 14 days. If you have been given any less it will not be enough. Print off the guidelines and show them to your GP. Of course, covid is going to make us cough and pseudomonas takes advantage of any virus to have a party.

I have suffered with Bronchiectasis for some years now and unfortunately the cough is the worse part of it, although with time you can get rid of it. I found the best thing was to nebulise with saline 3 times a day it certainly helped me although took some time. I wish you well, best wishes Ruth

Sorry to hear that you are feeling rough. The antibio only work on the symptoms not on the bronchiectasis itself. Bronch is a chronic disease that will not go away. My wife has had bronch for over 50 years but only started needing continual treatment about 4 years ago. This coincided with her at long last being diagnosed with bronch and not asthma, COPD, and all the other lung problems that have been suggested. For her, and many others, the usual treatment long-term is Azithromycin 3x per week and in her case physio 3x per week.

I hope you do get the right treatment, it does make a difference. Have a good day, Chris.

HI, I was born. with PCD, suspect have had bronchiectasis most of life, will be 88 this July. Had bad infections, inc pseudomonas, continuing for nearly two years. Since last December have been on one Azithromycin 250 daily, it’s working well. I also pay for physio at home twice weekly. Hope your wife continues well, enjoy France. Jean

Interesting that you take Azithro daily, perhaps because of age? We are just into our 70s so time will tell. My wife has hospital visit at the end of the month for a thourough check over. She had another Covid vaccine yesterday, no. 6 I think, and seems OK but is becoming more breathless, it is winter, so cold and wet. Take care, Chris.

yes think age has something to do with it, but suspect that length of time I’ve had bronchiectasis also. My one lung is partly collapsed onto other so that can’t help! I’ve visited northern France about 10 times with motorcycle group, happy memories. Last time stayed at StMalo, and visited St Michaels Mount, amazing. Also been to St Michaels Mount Cornwall, not as big. Hope weather improves for you, and also health. Best regards, Jean

I coughed with covid. Much more than I normally do.

The symptoms can linger when the infection has gone, caused, if I've got it right, by inflammation as the body tries to heal itself. Can anyone else tell me if this is right. I hope you soo start to feel better.

I presume you have a chest infection, but did you have a sputum test carried out to find what bug you have and what antibiotic knocks the bug out? Some bugs even require intravenous AB to sort them. Who diagnosed your bronchiectasis; was it after a CT scan, and have you seen a consultant at your local hospital? Your GP is a Jack of all ills but a master of none, or maybe one.

I am so sorry to hear you are unwell. My only addition to the above excellent advice, is to call NHS 111 as many times as you need. They should provide immediate support. Get well soon. xxx

I’ve had bronchiectasis many years, and have had cipro more times than I can count! It’s good with bronchiectasis infections, and I suspect Covid may be causing your ill feeling, Hopefully your GP will be helpful. If not, ring 111 NHS, Best wishes, Jean
