battery for Imogen 5

I have the Imogen 5 and am on 6L moving around , I belong to a sewing group and we visits shows throughout the year, sadly haven’t been able to for some time my battery has only just under 3 hours which really is no good at the shows and to sit anywhere if it was available for 3 hours to charge it up would really take the shine off going in the first place, I have asked my nurse if I could have a second battery and have been refused, I can understand due to cost but neither am I able to buy as they are quite expensive , I wondered if anyone has one they would sell?

hi Angie. I used to be on earlier models of concentrators and found that life was improved but a bit limited with only one battery (now on 24/7 oxygen). I am fortunate ( and was hardworking) enough to have been able to afford to buy additional batteries (which my lovely NHS support team were not told about to protect their situation). The additional batteries were an absolute blessing and opened up a full day’s activities, so “go for it” Angie! I have since passed on my earlier batteries to others- so where are all the other part used ( but still working well ) batteries. I bought and had good service by post from Pure O2 in Manchester but they did ask to see a copy of my prescription for oxygen use (quite rightly).

Come on fellow “ sniffers” where are you all - let’s help Angie out here!

I am also on oxygen 24/7 and use a scooter to get out and about. I used to have a small cylinder in use and carry a spare with me but after speaking to my oxygen nurse she ordered a portable concentrater plus an extra battery. Perhaps where you live has a lot to do with it.

Thanks craftyone I rather thought that might be the case, seems very restricting to be on 6L on a battery that lasts under 3 hours.

Hi Angie, just jumping in here if you don’t mind…what is your 02 prescription please…I find I am very limited on the 02 equipment I have.

at the moment I need 6L on movement, I don’t need any on rest, I was on 24/7 but that was changed, I do feel that 6L is a bit high though and waiting for respiratory to review

Wow, I am on 4-5 lpm on movement. I need to investigate the portable Inogen 5 then I think. I am so stuck when it comes to travelling. Thank you for your support.

I had to speak directly to my consultant for the Inogen 5, my respiratory team were giving me cylinders which I just couldn’t manage as I have spinal fractures too!

Thanks Angie, that is good advice. I found the bottles unmanageable too and. I don’t have spinal fractures so can imagine how challenging they were for you.

I think I will speak to one of the 02 companies and my home oxygen team and suss things out a bit more!

Thanks again. Enjoy the day.

I used to have an Inogen 3 and bought myself a spare battery for just the circumstances you describe…. I bought mine from eBay so it is always worth keeping an eye out for one on there. Now I am on liquid oxygen using flasks to fill from a mother tank - very frustrating to be limited to only a few hours travel at a time!

Hi Angie26

I too have an inogen one G5 and i got refused a second battery, as I wanted to got away sometimes on short break and bought one myself on E-bay second hand. I was a bit sceptical but they said it was only used 10 x times and to be fair it has been good and I am glad I bit the bullet and bought one, so they are about if you look. best of luck

Really sorry I can't help you Angie. I use an NHS supplied Imogen 5 and, like you, am only supplied with one battery. Not such a problem for me as my LPM flow rate is 3 to 4. Hope somebody can come up with a battery for you.

Regards

hi Angie26, I too have an Imogen machine with only one battery but I also have 4 cylinders. When I go to craft shows I book a disability accessible room with travelodge and make a holiday booking with my oxygen provider (Baywater), They have to provide the same equipment as you are prescribed for home. Depending where you are staying in the country you may get another portable Imogen machine, Baywater do supply one, others don’t as they presume you will take your own machine with you but you will at least have extra canisters. I think you need to talk to your oxygen nurse and explain it is stopping you from living your life and limiting your exercise and have your equipment prescription altered to suit. Good luck and happy sewing!

sorry, I hadn’t read earlier posts that said cylinders would not be any good

thanks for the info, nice to know about holiday and Baywater but yes the canisters are much too heavy for me even with a trolley.

Hello Angie. I am on Oxygen via a EF machine but use a Concentrator when I have to go out appointments etc. I have BOC as my supplier who are first class. Had problems with my concentrator so asked id they could supply a spare battery was informed they do not as the Imogen 1 is not for constant use which is too much for the battery keep recharging and the machine in general. As I say I am now on more or less 24 hour Oxygen I'm on between 3.5 and 4 as was told that 5-6 is too high to have constant.

BOC also come out on a regular service also read the clock on the Imogen 1 Have found that their service is first class and have been with them from the start which my Consultant put in place. All the very best
